New version from Debian repo requires GLIBC_2.38

New version from Debian repo requires GLIBC_2.38

After updating spotify-client to the latest version 1.2.77.358.g4339a634 from https://repository.spotify.com stable/non-free application won't launch:

./spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by ./spotify)

This is a problem, because a lot of Linux systems use GLIBC 2.36 (Debian stable, Ubuntu LTS, POP_OS! LTS) and do not have this version.

The only option for many Linux users for now is to stay on the older version (or use flatpack)

Regards!

Same problem here.

Same problem on Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) :

spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by spotify)
spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by spotify)

Same problem on Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS

spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by spotify)
spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by spotify)

Had the same issue. Tried to roll back, but there doesn't seem to be a public archive of spotify builds.

Maybe one of you is lucky and finds their previous version in /var/cache/apt/

Failing that, there is an unofficial archive, which includes the last working version, 1.2.74.477.g3be53afe . The Forum won't let me link to the github repo, but as disciples ofTux you should hopefully be aware of the dangers posed by unofficial software sources. HERE BE DRAGONS: LoaderSpot/deb-builds

I used v1.2.74.477.g3be53afe from this repo https://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify-client/ and it worked

How did you manage to download it? When I try download it I get a 404 error

Only spotify-client_1.0.72.117.g6bd7cc73-35_i386.deb works

same issue here, running popos 22.04

$ wget https://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify-client/spotify-client_1.2.74.477.g3be53afe_amd64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i spotify-client_1.2.74.477.g3be53afe_amd64.deb

Solved it on my Linux Mint 21.3 this way:

$ apt-cache madison spotify-client

spotify-client | 1:1.2.77.358.g4339a634 | https://repository.spotify.com stable/non-free amd64 Packages
spotify-client | 1:1.2.63.394.g126b0d89 | https://ftp.sh.cvut.cz/mint virginia/import amd64 Packages

I used the older version of the package 1:1.2.63.394.g126b0d89

$ apt install spotify-client=1:1.2.63.394.g126b0d89

I hope it works for others as well. Cheers. M.

Running Debian 12, updated Spotify on all my systems in the last few days, and now I can't use Spotify on anything but my Android phone because of the glibc 2.38 dependency being broken... If I can't resolve this soon, I will cancel my Spotify subscription because it's useless for me if I can't run it on my Debian systems.

Previous Spotify deb version might be still in your apt cache
ls -la /var/cache/apt/archives/spotify-client_*
In my case:
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/spotify-client_1%3a1.2.74.477.g3be53afe_amd64.deb
fixed the problem

I found previous version and I am using it, but i wouldn't say that this "fixed the problem" with this new version...

ok, call it whatever you want.
For me it fixed the problem of not working Spotify.

idem, sur debian

dans /var/log :
Dec 11 22:41:25 DEBIAN spotify.desktop[19134]: spotify: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.38' not found (required by spotify)

how to restore the previous version? / Comment restaurer la version précédente ? merci pour la musique

https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/ufficiozero.org/uzl-deb/anna/pool/main/s/spotify-client/
matches filesize of the official repo (which returns 404 now)

I have the same problem in Mint Linux 21.3 Virginia. In Software Manager, I uninstalled the system version and installed the flatpack. Library GLIBC_2.38 problem averted.

Same here with Linux Mint, how is it possible that they broke compatibility with Mint/Ubuntu LTS that are among the most used distributions? Hope this gets fixed soon.
