Spotify 0.9.11 [Linux desktop] freezes when clicking inside the blank space on the right

Solved!

Spotify 0.9.11 [Linux desktop] freezes when clicking inside the blank space on the right

I searched quite a bit for an answer to try to avoid being redundant, but I couldn't find anything similar to the issue (bug?) I am experiencing. Any time I click inside the empty box on the right side of the Linux client (see screenshot), my computer locks up. I'm able to move the cursor, but unable to click on anything inside or outside of Spotify.

I've done a clean install and the problem persists. I've updated the client using "sudo apt-get update" in the terminal, so I should have the latest version from Spotify's repository.

I am using:
-Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit) with 8GB RAM
-Spotify for Linux Desktop (Premium) 0.9.11.26.g995ec043

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. 🙂

[My somewhat inconvenient temporary fix: when the screen freezes, I hold the "Alt" key, then press F4. Spotify minimizes to the tray at top. I then click on Spotify's tray icon and press "Hide Spotify". I return to the icon and click "Open Spotify". Spotify now works until I accidentally click in that space again. Alternatively, I can restart the program, but the other method allows the music to continue playing.]

Note to Spotify team: I have a few devices that I use Spotify on, but I mostly use Ubuntu and I appreciate that you actively maintain the Linux version. I could use wine (or the web player), but I prefer the Desktop intergration that comes with the Linux client. Kudos.

This is actually a really old issue which is still unfixed:

It seems like a lot of people are having the same problem but different circumstances seem to trigger it. In my case, it only happens when I click in the empty right box... and it happens every time I click there. Is that supposed to be an advertisement?

I am pretty new to Spotify (switched from a competitor) so I didn't realize this was an issue. Hopefully the developers take note and fix it when they get a chance. I know Linux is just a side project for now.

Thank you for the quick reply and information, Peter. Kudos. 🙂

Sorry for the delay, I was away for a few days.

This may not solve others' problems, but your simple solution certainly solved mine.

Thank you so much! You're awesome.
