proxy for linux really not working

Regular

When I try to log in to spotify on the linux client I first go to Settings and configure a proxy complete with username and password.

Upon entering my Spotify username and password thereafter, the first query to the proxy server is to http://apresolve.spotify.com/?time=1509326173 WITHOUT a username and password when connecting to the proxy.

WHAT was the point of entering a username and password for the proxy if the very first connection to it doesn't use the authentication credentials?

Do you know what the proxy option means?

I have a feeling that you expect a different outcome.

Yes, I know what the proxy option means -- or what it is supposed to mean.  It's questionable whether Spotify knows what it means given that they ignore it on the very first contact they try to make over the network.

I am a network/IT specialist with 30 years of experience.  I build networks that employ proxy servers all of the time.  I know very well what they are and how they are supposed to operate.

The outcome I expect of setting the proxy server option in Spotify is that when it wants to make a connection to the Internet, it actually uses the proxy server I configured.

Thanks for the introduction, almost like having you over for a job interview 😉

I'm afraid that no one is able to answer your question, and it's very strange indeed.

Have you tried what the Windows client does? Or iOS & Android? Is there a difference? Very curious myself.

Cheers

I wanted to demonstrate that I do know, very much what I am talking about in this area.

Well, it's more of a bug report than anything. I don't expect anyone but a Spotify developer to be able to answer it and fix it, but this forum is my understanding of how bug reports are supposed to be filed.

No. I don't have Windows machines here nor iOS devices and I don't think the Android app supports use with a proxy. Very few Android apps do. But regardless, none of that helps with the problem at hand which is the Linux client.

Would be great to narrow down the issue with a Windows PC. In case you ever get the chance to check then please dump it here. More people would like to know I think.

I have checked my Android phone and you're correct about the Proxy part.

Cheers.
