"Cannot open display" on openSUSE

Solved!

"Cannot open display" on openSUSE

  1. Your device and operating system: ThinkPad P52, openSUSE Leap 15.1
  2. Type of Spotify account you have (Free/ Premium): Premium
  3. The app version of Spotify you’re using: 1.1.10.546.ge08ef575-19 from Snapcraft

I'm installing Spotify on my openSUSE system for the first time. When I try to open the program, Spotify appears on the taskbar for a little while but disappears and the window never comes up. This is the output from trying to run it as a command:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
No protocol specified

(spotify:25216): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0

I ended up installing Spotify using the experimental multimedia:apps package of spotify-easyrpm here. Seems to work well!

Hi,

I have exactly the same error message on openSUSE Tumbleweed (latest version 20191218) running KDE, and it's been there a couple of days now.

I'm a Premium Spotify subscriber.

snap version: 2.42.4-1.6

spotify version: 1.1.10.546.ge08ef575-19

With latest spotify-client-1.1.26.501 created with OpenSUSE spotify-easyrpm got a lot track "not available" errors, switching back to spotify-client-1.1.10.546 and error disappeared.
