I'm trying to reinstall the Spotify client on my Mac, which is behind a proxy at work. There doesn't seem to be any way to log in during the installation because I can't enter my proxy settings. The Preferences menu is greyed out, so I can't enter them there, and the install login page doesn't ask for proxy details, it just says "Service is temporarily unavailable, please try again later." Problem occurs with latest release and the beta. Anyone have ideas for how to log in during install behind a proxy?
There are a few known issues with the proxy at the moment. This is being looked into.
That's good. Perhaps while it is being looked into something can be done about giving people an HTTP proxy option instead of only HTTPS. For many people prior to the update, in order to play music and see album artwork and artist pictures, among other things, the Spotify prefs file had to be manually modified so that the network.proxy.addr setting ended with .http instead of .https. The fact that users have to manually edit the prefs file is ridiculous enough but, at least for me, the permissions of the folder containing the prefs file also had to be changed to 'read only' to prevent Spotify from overwriting it. So maybe a little more thought can go into the way the desktop client handles proxies? The hoops that people have to go through to use Spotify with a proxy are just insane.
As a small bypass so you can still listen to your music you can use the Webplayer with this link: https://play.spotify.com/?http=1
This is working fine for me behind the corporate Proxy.
Yeah, I use cntlm on my machine and I had to do something weird like 'http' in the host field and '//127.0.0.1:3128' in the port field to get it to work previously, but I could leave the username/passsword blank. Now nothing seems to work, even when I put in the standard company proxy and my corporate username/password (which means I'd have to remember to reconfigure that when my corporate password changes, but that's all moot at the moment since it doesn't work at all)
