Hi, I'm using spotify desktop client on OSX 10.11.
In task manager I can see, that spotify did write 477GB to my drive in the last 22 days - thats my current uptime. Is that correct behaviour?
6TB/year on SSD seems like a lot...
Hello @1166659352,
Welcome to Spotify Community!
I've checked my Mac and it looks like normal behavior, where my Spotify is playing almost 24/7. Most disk space is used by the Spotify cache folder.
I would suggest you to move the cache away from your SSD ( if that's an option for you ), because it seriously harms your SSD ( due to high I/O ).
Also, note if you clear the cache you will lose your offline data ( offline playlists ).
Let me know if you have more questions.
Well, as apple moved to SSD drives (Only imac has hdd as an option?) this shuold be fixed somehow...
Hey @1166659352,
Can you try if reducing the size of the cache folder does any good?
Start Spotify from terminal with the following command:
/Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify --p.storage_size=1024
If you close the terminal it's going to reset your settings back to default. 🙂
Let me know how it goes 🙂
What about launching it this way, no need to keep terminal running:
open -a Spotify --args --p.storage_size=1024
However, even with this it wrote 2GB within 60 minutes. Perhaps it does not help when the database file is already too big - it does not shrink and writes the database file over and over every 5 minutes.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
