MAC: Local Files Don't Play Suddenly

I've done my fair research on the boards here, though have yet to find a solution that has worked for me, so I figured I'd state my issue specificly.

My local files suddenly don't play in spotify.  Local files that spotify happens to also provide in their database default to the spotify link when played, though songs in my library that are not available on spotify merely stall out when i try and play them.  I've been using spotify for a good six months now and never had this problem until now.  I can go ahead and re-import the trouble songs, though upon closing and re-opening the program I must continue to re-import each time.  This is a particularly costly error as I use spotify extensively for work as I curate full-day playlists for multiple business establishments.  i use spotify to find and sequence hundreds of hours of music before purchasing thru itunes and mastering.  i have dozens and dozens of playlists archived in spotify for work and this issue has become a serious interference.

can any moderators or fellow users offer any suggestions as to why this is happening or how to fix it?  Let me reiterate that I am using a mac.

Have you tried a clean reinstallation of the client making sure to remove the specified Spotify folders?

i have not as im afraid that all of my playlists will disappear,  is there a way to ensure my playlists are safe?

Your playlists are stored remotely on the Spotify servers so they will be there when you install and login again.

The only thing you will loose is any playlists you have downloaded into offline mode if you have premium, the playlists will still exist but you would need to redownload them.

yikes, the thought of losing all of my work is a scary thought.  i appreciate this suggestion, though i may have to work up my courage before following through.  thats no offense to you and your expertise, im just paranoid and neurotic.
