(Non-Existing) Notifications

I remember in the past there were notifications even for when a new song was added to a playlist I followed, now there are no notifications at all, not even e-mail notifications. Don't know when my friend created a new playlist, don't know when a new album came out, don't know if a playlist was updated. Do I have to check everything one by one? What is exactly the point of following someone or something on Spotify?
