Spotify won't install - Catalina 10.15.7

Spotify won't install - Catalina 10.15.7

MacBook Pro 2017

Catalina 10.15.7

USA

I was having an issue opening up Spotify, it was just a black screen and nothing was happening, so I used instructions found on the Spotify website to clean the app and all files pertaining to the app off my laptop and do a clean reinstall.

However, I've downloaded the application and when I go to install it, nothing happens. The blue bar is fully loaded and it just sits and sits and sits. (See attachment).

I cannot update to BigSur because it's a work computer and our IT dept hasn't authorized it yet and I can't see that happening anytime soon since everyone is furloughed.

Hey there @CandiceCamron,

Thank you for your post here in the Community. We're happy to help.

Can you see if you can remove the host files by following these steps:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and reinstall Spotify

Keep us posted. We're always one reply away 🙂

Cheers!
