My Question or Issue

the desktop app for Spotify randomly became unopenable, and then when reinstalling, the Installer either didn't open with what I assume is an error code of -47, or it sits at the end of the progress bar before eventually crashing the system entirely.

Hi there @EnderBlaze7879,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

There might be some corrupted cache and leftover files during the reinstallation process that might be causing this, so we recommend performing a clean reinstall by following these steps instead to make sure they're cleared.

Another thing worth trying is flushing DNS and restarting your Mac afterwards:

  • Open the terminal by using Spotlight Search or by pressing Command + Space and then type Terminal
  • Double-click the application icon for Terminal to open it.
  • Type in “sudo dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder” without quotes
  • Enter your Mac’s password
  • Press Enter to complete

Hope this helps.

I attempted both methods before restarting my system, and unfortunately doesn't seem to work still.

Hey there @EnderBlaze7879,

Thanks for the reply and for the info shared.

In this case, we'd suggest you clear the host files of your Mac. You can follow the steps on this article to do it. Make sure you're running the latest OS version available for your device.

Another thing worth trying is rebooting your computer in Safe mode, and then try installing the app again in Safe mode as well. Afterwards, reboot your device to see how it goes.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Are you able to use the web player?
  • Do you use a VPN? If yes, try switching it off.
  • Does this happen when trying to install a different app?

Keep us in the loop!
