My Question or Issue

When I try to play a song I get the following error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it"

I have tried all the fixes I have seen:

Reinstalling app.

Using version from Microsoft store.

Disabled hardware acceleration.

Disabled crossfading.

Changed speaker options.

Deleted local files.

I've had this issue before and it was fixed by using the version from the Microsoft store but this isn't working now.

Spotify works on my phone and my laptop, web player also works only the desktop app doesn't work.

UPDATE: I did ultimately find a solution by changing the Advanced settings in the Speakers/Headphones Properties window -- but I only needed to do this on my homes desktop, not my work desktop. Go figure!

^^^ This, folks, is the solution!^^^

enabled windows sonic for headphones and fixed my issue on widows 11

Spotify Customer Satisfaction Team: the beatings will continue until morale improves."

What settings did you change?

"What settings did you change?"

Open up Volume Mixer (lower right of system tray).

Click on Device (Speakers/Headphones).

Click on Advanced Tab.

Change Default Format from 24 bit, 48000 Hz to 24 bit, 44100 Hz (it's right above).

Click Apply.

Worked for me. Good luck!

That does seem to have worked. Now if Spotify only had a tech support team
that could have told me that...

I'm still not going to renew premium. I do not feel it's worth it.

Just one option there, 16 bit, 48000 Hz DVD~~

This works for me!! Thank you!!

Thank you! This instantly fixed the problem for me!

When I try to play a song on my desktop app, Spotify shows a pop-up error that says it can't play those songs and suggests that I might import already downloaded songs. But I can play them just fine on the mobile app. What can I do to solve this issue?

My Question or Issue

Spotify gives me the error listed in the title whenever i try to play a song on the app and I have no idea how to fix it. I've looked at posts with the same issue and none of them have solved my problem

Attempted fixes:

Reinstalling spotify

Deleting spotify app data (none seem to exist)

Checking audio sampling rate (48k so below any issue levels)

Changing/removing hosts (unsuccessful as couldn't find any)

Temporary solution:

My temporary solution is to use spotify web version which works fine but not as good as app

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advanced

Windows desktop app is no longer able to play any songs. Web player is ok, and if i set an external device as the play target in the desktop app those play as well. but any attempt to play on the local machine fails.

I've uninstalled ms store versio and reinstalled from the website, no joy.
i uninstalled, removed any trace of folders left within appdata, shut down, rebooted, reinstalled and no joy.
hosts has no references of any sort that could impact the client app.
at a loss of what i should try next

interesting although I don't recall changing this option ahead of mine stopping the other day, changing from what was 16bit 48khz to 24bit 44.1khz has done the trick.. cheers!

My spotify on laptop is not working

It appears " Spotify cant play right now. If you have a file on your computer you can import it"

Same here.  Jan 2025.  Web version works fine.  App just stopped working.  Windows 11 Home.

All songs will not play on windows 10 after recent update. Says Can't play this right now, as if there is no internet connection. I am a premium subscriber, have been for years now.

Despite my stereo speakers being connected and set as the default device, Spotify refueses to play audio through them. I keep getting this message:

Spotify can’t play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it.

This problem started a couple days ago.

Here are the details:
Stereo speakers connected via Sound line-in jack.
Speakers work fine with other music apps (e.g. Idagio)
Default device is set correctly in Windows Sound settings
TMP is enabled and ready for use
Restarting PC and Spotify app doesn’t resolve the issue. I’ve downloaded the app from both the Spotify website and the Microsoft app store.

Thank you!

Thank you!  I had to set mine to 24 bit, 44100 Hz...  but it finally works!
