My Question or Issue

When I try to play a song I get the following error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it"

I have tried all the fixes I have seen:

Reinstalling app.

Using version from Microsoft store.

Disabled hardware acceleration.

Disabled crossfading.

Changed speaker options.

Deleted local files.

I've had this issue before and it was fixed by using the version from the Microsoft store but this isn't working now.

Spotify works on my phone and my laptop, web player also works only the desktop app doesn't work.

I think I have found a temporary resolution to this issue. Turn off "Smart Shuffle" then play the songs you cant play. Then turn "Smart Shuffle" back on and the songs should be playable.

If you have shuffle turned off, cycle through the shuffle options then play your song that was unplayable. The app seems to lag or freeze for a second then recover after this action when the issue is present.

For me, I found going into your audio settings, clicking on your output device, and disabling any "effects" worked.

Hi All, I cannot play MUSIC via Spotify. Podcasts/audiobooks work fine as usual. But when I try to play any music track I get the "Spotify is unable to play this now, if you have a local file you can upload it" message. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it (From Microsoft store), I've reset the quality level. No joy. Is anyone else having the same issue, with MUSIC only?

Update: Audiobooks DO NOT work, Only PODCASTs.

Windows 11 Pro, Downloaded Spotify App Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

I have tried everything listed above in people's replies.  Nothing works.  Yesterday, I discovered that if I logged in onlne and then chose "Web player (Chrome)", it would work

Error: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."

Suddenly, the liked songs playlist doesn't work anymore:
"Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer, you can import it".
No issue on iOS. No issue, when starting playing a song from the playlist using web player from a browser, then I can switch between tracks in the desktop app.

Already tried logging out/in and reinstalling the app.

Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.55.235.g5eaa0904

Same problem. Interesting that it only happens for liked songs. Doesn't happen for other playlists. Seems to be a spotify bug. My version is also:

Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.55.235.g5eaa0904

I have the same problem. And just try a simple things:

1. Open the spotify app

2. Mute or lower down the volume

3. Play the music

This simple things just worked for me. Try it!

My Question or Issue

when i try to play a track through my laptop Dell Laptop with Windows 10 installed. a white pp up appears saying

"Spotify cant play this right now. If you have this file on your computer you can import it"

Can someone explain this and how to remedy my problem of not being able to play spoty through my laptop

Whenever I play a song it says "Spotify cannot play this right now" so when I go to change the output in the sound mixer the application itself is not appearing there. I have also checked the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" boxes, reinstalled the app around 10 times used both downloaded thru internet and microsoft store versions and still I cannot find a fix.

Spotify displays the error message "Spotify can't play this track right now. If you have this file on your computer you can import it" when I try to play anything on desktop. Mobile works fine, but web and desktop do not work on multiple devices.

I have tried restarting the app, checking for updates, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and clearing my cache, but nothing works.

When I try to play a song from my liked songs specifically I get the error "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it". When playing from anywhere else it works.

I have checked host files, reinstalled, checked audio devices, disabled hardware accelleration and reduced streaming quality and none of that made any difference

web player works

Thank you all for any help I might be given 🙌

If I tried to play my liked Songs, a message appears "Spotify can't play this right now" but when I go to the artist and I can play it.

Can we get a step by step?

1) Uninstall Spotify.

Done.

This solution worked for my Windows 11 pc.

I went to the Settings app>System>Sound. Then I scrolled all the way down to "More sound settings". (Clicking this opens the Control Panel for Sound.) I clicked on my speakers (the device that wasn't working for me), went to the "Advanced" tab, and clicked on "Restore Defaults", then "Apply" in the bottom right corner.

Secondly, I once again went to the Settings app>System>Sound, but I tapped on "Volume mixer". Here, I pressed "Reset sound devices and volumes for all apps to the recommended defaults".

It was after this second procedure that I stopped getting the error on Spotify, so perhaps the first one wasn't necessary.

Cheers

disabled the signal enhancement in playback properties solved my problem

I saw that on another computer, the person was selecting the properties of the microphone properties instead of the speaker properties.

I want to be able to use the previous software Ver, the current Ver is garbage that cannot be played.

Same issue. Using app wont play message IF external speakers are selected (which work fine in all other apps and system sounds). Using app will play IF crappy internal speakers are selected. I believe it either Windows or Spotify update that caused this.
