My Question or Issue

Whenever I play a podcast episode, the video plays fine. Then when I "download" it and try to continue watching later (no matter whether I'm offline or online), the video wont play anymore. The audio plays but I just see a black screen in the video (see screenshot)

Spotify is a joke, we can’t stream video in offline mode but we pay silly amounts a month, something they definitely need to change. Do you know of any way we can maybe get there attention on this as I feel it could be a huge issue with podcast users, personally I love to listen to a podcast on the plane but would love to actually watch the podcast in addition to listening.

Hey @KieranM00,

We appreciate the feedback and understand how you feel 🙂

If it's any consolation. on the Community you folks get the option to post any ideas that would, in your opinion, make the app better & more user-friendly.
If you feel like doing so, you can post an Idea about offline podcast listening with video streaming, I would definitely vote for that 😄

Once an Idea gathers enough votes, it will get looked into by the internal teams at Spotify and it might even get implemented! The more votes it gathers - the better.
Only make sure anything you post adheres to the Idea Exchange guidelines linked here 🙌🏼

Fingers crossed!

If you want to watch the video you can't download it, downloading is always audio only. Something that needs to be an option in settings but here we are 2 years later with the same problem. Mobile has the option desktop doesn't

It is stupid, but I have to remove each download when I want to watch the episode. They just need a button to ask for it in such scenario that will require a solid connection.

Dear internet,

As you are the future, the present as well as you’ll be forever remembered in the past, since as you know - the internet never forgets!

Please let me enter this epic forum-thread once and for all.

Spotify may be the best thing that has happened (or the worst) to the music industry, artists, creators, and users.

Do not forget that the date is 2023-09-01 and this simple issue is not yet solved.

According to **Glassdoor**, an average Spotify employee earns **$206k** per year.

The base salaries of Spotify employees range from **$60k** to **$260k** for various roles.

How can this be accepted by the support team better than this?

You still have to delete the app from Settings / General / Remove the entire app, yada yada…in order to make the videos to run again on downloaded podcasts for example,

Like The Joe Rogan Experience, that you paid $200 million for to have the rights to. According to the New York Times.

This must be a joke.

I have been a user since the start. I am a digital specialist, father, and a

nearly manic entrepreneur,

This is just not worthy Spotify as the brand, and the noted and publicly llisted company that Spotify actually is,

If I would be in charge - this would be solved ages ago.

I hope you are humble enough to feel a tiny bit of shame since the fact still stands - the issue is not fixed. And I am sorry but the online support is a joke.

This will be a part of your history.

Yours sincerly,

William Rydh

I 'm currently in premium plan and the problem still happen, I look at the download progress and clearly it only download the audio part, no way it can download a 3 hours podcast in 10 seconds.

Issue not being solved since 2021. It is now 2024, considering migrating to another friendlier platform. What's the actual point of paying a "premium" to be treated like that ? Why would we systematically have to not show the video when the podcast is downloaded. Perhaps I download my episodes in advance in case I run out of internet, and meanwhile I sill need the video for when I'm not offline. it's utterly ridiculous, every single problem I 've encountered with spotify have already been issued and years later not solved.

I love you
