pixel earbuds can't pause play or skip songs on laptop

My pixel earbuds work perfectly with spotify on my google pixel phone.

On my laptop there are issues. I can only change the volume, I can't pause, play or skips songs with my pixel earbuds. I can play & pause with other media devices on my laptop with my earbuds. I spoke to google and they went through a few things to make sure my earbuds were working correctly & have told me this a Spotify issue. How do I get my earbuds to work with Spotify on my laptop?

First up, it's well worth running a clean reinstall by following these steps and make sure to download the app again from the Microsoft Store.  

Also, we suggest that you restart your router before trying it again to check if that makes the difference. 

If this doesn't do the trick, could try to unpair your earbuds and then re-pair them again?
