Add support for Android TV

Android TV is Google's latest take on Android for the TV and is released with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The first device running Android TV is Google's own device Nexus Player.

The good thing with Android TV is that it runs regular Android apps with some modifications and it also has built in support for Google Cast.

Starting today, you’ll find Spotify on Android TV devices including Sony’s BRAVIA, NVIDIA SHIELD, Philips and the Bbox Miami by Bouygues Telecom. Click here for a complete list of all devices that support Android TV.

My app is back on the Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sregg.android.tv.spotifyPlayer

If any Spotify offical reads this message, I also want to reiterate that I'm open for some sort of partnership (or job offer) to build a proper, official Spotify TV app.

TV player for Spotify does some basics, but lacks a number of features.

Come on guys 22 kudos to reach 250. We need kudos in order to get attention and we can together make Spotify finally code an android TV app. Let's bump this thread!! There are like a minimum of 50 kudos per year to have the ideas active, if not they're closed. I think we are safe, but more kudos people!!

For folks with the Nexus Player.  I was able to sideload the Spotifty App to the Nexus Player.  You'll need a keyboard to login and use the app though.  The app will start in vertical mode, but once you enter your username/password it will rotate to the proper horizontal mode.

At this point you can play your music through Spotify Connect and control it with your phone.  It's a tad glitchy sometimes though.  My phone might just stop thinking that it's connected.  Sometimes if the NP goes to the screensaver, it can stop the music.  This doesn't happen very often though.

Still...I would prefer a legitmate Spotify app for Nexus Player, or the ability to cast to it like my Chromecast.

The app for a TV box and tablet would be allmost the same, except for added functions to get to menus and controls without touch.
Come on Spotify, get your asses in gear.

More than a year later and still nothing.

Well I'll stop my subscription with spotify and take google music instead.

Since I'm full Android (phone, tablet and TV now) I have no issue with that.

And after people are going to complain that google is everywhere.

If big companies like spotify don't move, it's not gonna help !

I don't understand the limitation to Chromecast... it's the same protocol. This is necessary volunteer not to push Spotify casting support to Nexus Player... I really think I'm gonna cancel my Premium subscription.

I´d propose Sony or any other Android TV vendor to gift some units to Spotify's board members.

Once they have a set at home maybe they will push their teams to move on.

Chromecast supports it, Android supports it, so what is the problem?
