Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Please see the Api information here: https://developers.google.com/cast/

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

Updated: 2015-10-22

In collaboration with Google, we’re thrilled to announce one of your most requested features here in The Spotify Idea Exchange is here. Spotify now works with your Chromecast.

With Chromecast, listening at home is easy. Simply plug in and cast music directly from your phone or tablet. Play, skip, browse and search using the Spotify app--all Spotify users will get the on demand experience on Chromecast. Oh, and feel free to make calls, watch a video or play games - the music will keep playing. Even if your battery runs out.

To learn more about how you can listen at home, head over to www.spotify.com/at-home.

Mirroring my Note 4 via Chromecast to my Samsung 32" also gives issues because there is constant skipping and delay when playing songs and I hate that I can't do anything else on my cell when it's mirroring. Tried mirroring from my Asus tablet and it's worse.

Not crazy about the previous update.. the search button for local files is there but no longer pulls anything.. Would love to filter within my own music files like you can in Windows Media Player.. and the ability to edit album art and titles on local files as well.. I really love this app and being an audiophile who mainly collects vinyls, flac support would be awesome.

This is silly, I am a loyal customer of many years, and am seriously considering researching other solutions that provide chromecast support. I just find myself not using Spotify as much as I use to, and when I want to use it on my stero I end up settling for YouTube or Songza because I can connect it to my Chromecast reliably and without some weird work around.

I really hope they are limited by some contractual legal agreement that they need to figure out, cause otherwise they are just being stupid.

The most kudoed idea STILL not implemented?

Top notch customer support.

I need this feature. Just signed up for the 3 month premium 'trial' and just realized there is no 'Google Cast' support.. may have to cancel after 3 months as I won't use it enough to justify the $10/month (as I'll be using YouTube or Songza for the cast to TV and home theater).

Was just checking out streaming services including Spotify.

Sad to say but I will be continuing to look as lack of Google/Chrome cast is a showstopper for me.  I hear Rdio has it.

Is there any legal issue for making this happen? It is available using Airplay. Is this an imposition made by Apple? It is the only answer that makes sense.

Cancelled my Spotify "Premium" subscription and moved to Google Music.

If you're using an Android device, you can download Spoticast from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nop.spoticast&hl=en and it will add Chromecast support to the Spotify android app.

Spoticast is unstable. It looks great and it does function but it still
makes all the playing happen actually on the device. Also I like many
others have had issue with the connection just dropping out randomly and
then you have to manually start everything back up again.

True integration would allow the chrome cast to play the media directly
from Spotify with our other devices being not much more then a remote
control.
