Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

Rhapsody / Napster just announced chromecast support today. Spotify better be taking note of chromecast's popularity.

Chromcast Support = Google play, Beats, Rdio, Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, Crackel, Vudo 

NO Chromecast Support = Spotify

Good luck with Spotify Connect, it will never gain momentum with the much cheaper alternatives that already exist. Sonos already thumbed their nose at your gimmic.

do it now already! i'm so sick of paying for a service, that treats me as a user w/ an android and linux device, with no care at all. i'm grateful for the linux version, but some more updates would be good. announcing a new feature, like the interface and then make it ios only, what a joke. not only is spotify not communicating with their paying customers, it's also not listening and so so slow to adopt new features. i'm eying rdio right now, works beautifully with my chromecast!

Do we have any source for the info that Spotify Germany would have confirmed Chromecast support to come? I'm right now considering switching to another streaming service. I'd honestly like to stay with Spotify and could wait another 1-2 months if I definitely knew it would be implemented in the future. I don't really understand Spotify's position here. If you don't want to implement it, just say so - then people like me could take according decisions. This "maybe later" or "not now" thing is a bit annoying.

I've also wrote the german customer support about to support chromecast. The answer was a simple "we've nothing heard about it from our developers" 😞

I would love to see this feature implemented too. I would even say, go one step further and let all the people in the room with spotify in their devices to pick&vote songs for the casted playlist.

I would prefer if spotify pulled their finger out and got to work on a proper intergration but that dosn't look like it'll happen very soon.  For me ... I'll stick to Google Play Music and all the other services that do support chromecast.

Yeah, but that requires rooting your device and doesn't show nice artwork on the screen for your albums. I DO like how Soundcloud is intergrated now though. So that is yet another service that has support for Chromecast in some way, yet in order to even remotely do the same with Spotify, you have to root your phone.

Completely unacceptable. I don't know why Spotify has a "maybe manana" approach to everything, but they simply MUST pick up the pace else their competitors will roll right over them. It's baffling to me as to how a company in the tech sector can move so slow on things while all their competitors move forward. It's not a long term survival strategy, that's for sure. Spotify acts like they are still the only game in town. They are not. If you're not keeping up, then you are losing ground....and subscribers over it.

As soon as chromecast is added, I'll be back to paying for spotify.  I dropped my spotify premium subscription after subscribing for over a year the day my chromecast arrived, and the day chromecast comes to spotify I'll come right back.
