Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Please see the Api information here: https://developers.google.com/cast/

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

Updated: 2015-10-22

In collaboration with Google, we’re thrilled to announce one of your most requested features here in The Spotify Idea Exchange is here. Spotify now works with your Chromecast.

With Chromecast, listening at home is easy. Simply plug in and cast music directly from your phone or tablet. Play, skip, browse and search using the Spotify app--all Spotify users will get the on demand experience on Chromecast. Oh, and feel free to make calls, watch a video or play games - the music will keep playing. Even if your battery runs out.

To learn more about how you can listen at home, head over to www.spotify.com/at-home.

Literally every competing music streaming service is on Chromecast now, and the units seem to be selling like hotcakes - Get to work Spotify, can't be THAT complicated to implement (n)

Will cancel my subscription when free trial for Google Music ends later this month.

No Chromecast support, no spotfy..

I recently added 12 months of spotify premium service to my account, i couldn't regret any more about it. Today I signed up for a trial of google all music service and  tried the chromecast support selecting my sonos speaker and OMG!, i really love how it works.

I will try to get a refund (very unlikely) from spotify, at least half of it would be ok. I don't like spotify anymore, i thought spotify was an "open minded" company, working to get all connectivity and flexibility as possible. But now I see the real face of spotify.

I posted this reply over at the Spotify Connect thread, it might be deleted...

Spotify connect the new way Rorey

ROREY Posted the below reasons why you should go for Spotify Connect, but he forgot to mention the "other" option everyone want to see implemented into Spotify.

Spotify connect sounds ok, but sorry to say #Chromecast will steamroll all competition at this point.

And really, isn´t multiple options better for us users of your service?

Bring your music home. You’ve just walked through the door, listening to your favourite playlist on your phone. With Spotify Connect, simply hit play on your living room speakers and the music instantly fires up, right where you left off - making sure you never miss a beat.

Then pick up your tablet to keep controlling the music from your sofa, or seamlessly switch the sound to your iPod Touch in the kitchen’s docking station.

#Chromecast does this without any problem at all, you can actually stream music(google play music/hopefully spotify rather sooner then later) to the living room stereo, netflix to your tv and youtube to my projector in another room and still have the phone/tablet free to read mails or take a call.

None of the hassle. Thanks to Spotify Connect, you won’t need to rely on unstable connections to stream music between your devices. No longer will incoming phone calls, loss of signal range, or watching a video spoil the party.

Sounds awesome, but the above issues does only apply if you either use Airplay(bad) or bluetooth(worse) but #Chromecast support in Spotify would not be affected at all by these issues.

Unlike other wireless music solutions, using Spotify Connect won’t drain your battery. Plus you can continue to use your phone or tablet to call friends or start playing your favourite game without missing a beat.

Another great point, this feature is where the #Chromecast support REALLY shines, your phone or tablet doesn´t even have to be turned on after you press the #Chromecast button since the #Chromecast dongle pulls the audio stream DIRECTLY from the internet without even touching your device! It´s like frikkin magic!!!

Choose your home speaker system. Spotify Connect will be available on a wide range of speakers and home audio systems from music hardware specialists including Argon, Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Marantz, Philips, Pioneer, Revo, Teufel and Yamaha, with further brands coming soon. Look out for the Spotify Connect logo on compatible systems.

Why on earth would I possibly buy a new piece of expensive hardware to use Spotify connect when I have a perfectly fine Integra 80.3??? A 4000+$ monster A/V machine with a plugged in #Chromecast that does all of the above points and some more?

Any random brick & mortar A/V shop or google play shop could sell me a #Chromecast dongle for 35$/30euro/25£/310sek that I can use with ANY tv or remotely new A/V reciever and save a ton of money AND have most/all/more features and benefits then Spotify Connect?

This is not me taking a dump on Spotify Connect, I think it´s great, but for me personally it´s more or less useless.

Me and Thousends of others here on your own community would very much like to see Chromecast support added for Android/iOS/Windows (desktop is a must, webplayer is horrible so don´t bother)and if possible WP)

I think Spotify Connect, Airplay and Chromecast support would seal the deal for most users showing your music streaming service being THE greatest option out there, but right now I´m personally mostly using Google play music at home as it´s more convinient and smoother to stream then spotiify.

Chromecast from tab+webplayer does not work so great, music quality suffers and laptops get drained pretty quick due to realtime transcoding so not an option..

With this rant out of the way I just want to say I hope Chromecast support isn´t halted due to licensing terms with Spotify connect partners or Daniel Ek being locked out from the Google cantina 😉

Please add kudos and let Spotify know how much you want Chromecast support HERE!

My wife and I both use Spotify. I have two Chromecasts and got tired of waiting. So I bought two Roku 1s. The Roku Channel blows! I have to type one letter at a time, with a remote, to search. Then I can only listen to one album at a time or a playlist. Where are the radio and shuffle features? Those are the main reasons we use Spotify. Please add Chromecast support soon. The alternative is unacceptable and clearly not as fully featured as our phone and tablet apps.

Just wondering: how many Premium members does Spotify think to gain from the Spotify Connect devices and how does that compare to the number of premium users cancelling their subscription due to lack of decent a streaming option like Chromecast?

AnttiE
I also canceled my membership due lack of chromecast. I do have yamaha av receiver and spotify working with it. It actually works pretty well soundwise and I kind of like it. Actually it's in one way much better than chromecast. When I press connect to yamaha, it will automatically turn receiver on and music starts playing. Because Chromecast is connected to the same receiver it doesn't turn on unless I open the receiver with remote. This is actually a bit cucursome. But there is also a downside. Sometimes when I last time used yamaha and then I am outside it first starts on yamaha. I was once in China and started playing music in my home in Finland. Scared the s*it out of my gf. But my biggest gripe with the spotify connect is that the graphics which display the artist etc on screen looks ugly and doesn't move.. I have plasma and sometimes the text box will stay there even after using the spotify connect

"Please continue to show your support and stay updated in this thread."

Enough waiting, just cancelled my Premium subscription and convinced my friend to do the same, I hope that is enough support from my side.

Not supporting Chromecast for Android users is like not supporting AirPlay for iOS users - shot in the foot.
