[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Lol why would you even suggest we vote on it and then literally the next day say "not right now".

We get it, you all use iPhones and don't understand the convenience of a widget. But how much extra resources could it cost to maintain it as an option for those of us who do like it? Why not divert some funding from the 8 daily playlists you think I need to hear and leave the widget?

Seriously frustrating. If their catalogs were as large I would easily switch full time to Amazon music or tidal just to have a widget. It's that serious y'all!

Well, thanks for quickly shutting down any chance of bringing the widget back soon. Bye Felicia!

This has got to be the stupidest change Spotify had made so far. What harm can this widget do? It only leaves us Android users open to customization, which is why we own Android OS phones in the first place.

If anyone knows of or finds a third party home screen music widget that is compatible with Spotify, please reply back!

Can't believe they are doing this to save a penny. So annoying.

Undersky

I use the widget everyday, but now with it gone, I'm probably going to stick the Soundcloud widget in Spotify's place, which will probably lead to less listening on Spotify and more on Soundcloud. I usually start Spotify by pressing the widget (although, now that we can add separate playlists on the Home screen, I tend to start it off that way instad). And the widget has its nice place on one of my Home screens dedicated to control over my home (Hue, Sonos widgets etc). But now it just looks silly. And since that Home screen is my main way to control my home, I'm guessing I'll be listening more on Soundcloud in the future.

I don't know the reasoning behind the removal, but I hope it's clear that at least in my case, it will lead to less time spent with Spotify. It's not a statement towards Spotify, I'm just telling you that that's what's going to happen with my listening pattern since I can't have evertything in one place anymore.

Absolutely awful move. Literally my favorite feature of any app.

Why was the android widget removed in the first place?

Guys,

I've downloaded an app named "Ubiquity Music Widget" ... with this you are able to create a media widget and set Spotify as the default music player and works aaaalmost the same as the Spotify Widget.

I'm a few weeks into my Spotify Premium and Pandora Premium subscriptions, evaluating both services and deciding which one to keep for the long term. Removing the Spotify Android widget makes the decision easy - this is a dealbreaker.

Please bring back the widget. This is ridiculous! I sure hope ya'll did the research and found not a lot of people use this feature to justify removing it. It's SO useful, though and it looks like it is for others.
