[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Thanks for bringing it back. The last weeks I was seriously thinking to end my premium subscription because I couldn't and I wouldn't get used to the 'new' complicated way of controlling the music app. However, actually I like spotify a lot; so I'm happy they changed their mind, and I do not have to think about alternatives anymore  🙂

Glad Spotify actually listened! If you guys are gonna make improvements, may I suggest adding the ability to toggle shuffle on and off through the widget?

They brought it back? I can't believe it! I guess there was no real issue then, other than greed. So thank you for listening to us customers/users, but then again - why did you remove it in the first place??? I'd say we are at a middle ground right now then.

I really don't get the brand loyalty Spotify has. They sure as heck haven't earned it. Nothing wrong with a business caring about profit—they have to—but it's also YOUR money that they get, or the profit they earn from the adds you listen to.

It feels like thanking a mechanic for fixing your air conditioning for free... after the mechanic broke it. A month ago. And refused to say how or why. And when you asked, they said it's fine, because you can just roll down the window. And they only started fixing things again, very begrudgingly, after losing enough business and getting enough bad word of mouth.

And now everyone's giving the world's worst mechanic 5-star ratings again, while there are half a dozen other mechanics in town who never broke anyone's air-conditioning on purpose.

Please design a 5x1 widget to span the width of a standard layout.

Artwork, thumbs up, thumbs down, back, play, forward.

Still on the fence, should I stay or should I go? Next payment due on the 16th. I have tried Deezer, Amazon Music Unlimited and YouTube Music. All of them have much better sound quality than Spotify. All of them have widgets and work more or less fine. All of them cost much the same. I used STAMP to transfer my playlists to these other services with mixed results, sometimes it matched for a cover/remix version or cover band and some went unmatched even though if I manually search for the song I would find it in the new service provider's database. It's a bit of a hassle to move to another service but I do recognize that just for the sound quality we have placed our loyalty into a company that repeatedly abuses it and that clearly doesn't provide an outstanding service but a below par one compared to the market.

Im sure you've heard it many times already, but here it is again, bring back the widget or I'm going to have to cancel my family subscription. I am constantly listening to music at work, and I use that widget multiple times per hour, not even daily. So yeah pretty bad move to remove something so essential for thousands of people.

And here wo go again... no real communication. I am following this thread to see how Spotify is handling their userbase but have since switched to Deezer. I even re-installed Spotify to see if the widget is re-instated. But as suspected: not yet present in the app and nothing else than a vague update without any timeline. Vapourware?

They said they are reinstating it.  As I am voting with my money, I will reinstate my Premium Membership AFTER the widget is back.

Good news but not enough details. I am trying out both Tidal and Apple Music in the mean time and fortunately for Spotify, the transition is not seamless so I am holding on to my free trials while Spotify gets its mess fixed. If not, it's been good knowing you.
