(Mobile) Return repeat and queue buttons to Now Playing screen

The new UI for the Now Playing screen on mobile (iOS and Android) doesn't seem space-efficient. I understand that inevitably the design will be refreshed and changed, but, given the amount of unused screen space, I don't think it was necessary to move the view queue and repeat buttons into a separate menu. It seems like it shouldn't be too difficult to find space to these on the main screen, espcially considering how often many users make use of these features.

Note: Attached images show the Spotify iOS app version 8.4.91 on an iPhone SE compared to a previous iOS app version 8.4.81, I believe.

Hey folks,

Just a heads up, that the Repeat and Queue buttons have returned to the Now Playing View on the mobile app.

The repeat button has moved to the left and you Queue can be found just below.

Thanks!

As a developer, I think one of the biggest metrics for the efficiency of a UI is the number of taps required to do simple tasks. I use the queue button all the time and adding an extra tap to get to it is ridiculous. There's no reason for it and the repeat button to be buried in a menu at the top corner of the screen. If anything, more of the buttons from that menu should be placed on the Now Playing screen. Please fix this.

I cannot stress enough how much I hate this design decision.  It goes against every good design rule in the book. All that empty space. All those extra clicks. Absolute rubbish decision. And I’m sick of Spotify not listening to its users. We pay for Premium and I think we should be getting a better product.

It would appear (given I have a ton of negative responses to my post) this
idea is resoundingly hated by EVERYONE!

I wonder if Spotify will listen...

Thank you for creating this post. The latest changes in the UI are a nightmare and if they don't change it back I will probably cancel my premium subscription and switch to Apple Music instead (ironically, the better UI design was the reason why I was going for Spotify in the first place)

Agreed! This change falls under bad UI ideas. It was probably for the sake of making it cleaner, but if that gets in the way of efficiency and ease of use, then that's just bad design.

Agreed!

yea. give it back. also, rant incomming.

honestly im pretty bummed out regarding the changes...

over the years i cannot remember any change which ADDED features, only removals.

the desktop client was much better a few years back with more customizability, more lightweight and honestly i don't remeber it crashing or freezing as it does today.

the mobile app got worse, too. the client does not save the current playlist position offline anymore and you have to start playlists again. the missing shuffle option only makes it harder to go back to a thousand songs playlist, too.

multi device playback or whatever that feature is called internally got worse, too. it used to just function as a remote, now it resets the playlist.

the app freezes often on iOS, current release, iphone 8.

i really like that development is continuing. the design decisions are really frustrating though. it feels as if the designers want to dumb it down as much as possible.

feedback gets ignored, here and on reddit.com/r/spotify and probably all other communities as well.

i used to like spotify very much, kept up with technical changes (i remember a talk about direct L3 routing to the app servers.. ha!), recommended it to my friends and colleagues, got my familiy into it...

right now it feels very draining and exhausting to remain a customer.

even classifying the restoration of the shuffle button as a "new" feature, after removing it is very brazen. even getting to this page is hard. oh, i forgot to mention all the dark patterns i encouter.

don't know where i was going with this, it's not as if i was expecting any changes from this request.

im just sad seeing the service deteriorate after spending so much time with it.

i will probably end up creating my own selfhosted replacement during my next vacation...

so long spotify, we had a good run.

I really hope to see the add to queue and repeat buttons added back to the main screen. I hate having my music stop because I can’t clearly see when the repeat option is off. Please change this back, Spotify!

Also, have you guys noticed that they removed the option to Swipe Right to ‘Add to Queue’ when searching your playlist on iOS app?

It’s funny how this version of Spotify has less features than WinAmp had 15 years ago.
