Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

It would be great if when I go to add a song to a current playlist, if it would let me choose whether to replace or keep if the song is already in the playlist.  Sometimes I forget I've added the song (especially when setting up my account) as I am listening to songs in the Radio feature and want to add it to a particular playlist.  I'd rather not have to spend the maintenance time to remove dups.

I'd rather have it as a menu option. Edit > Select all, Edit > remove duplicates.

Yes this would be great.  Just like windows has the copy and replace or keep options.  Let us know it's already in there.

Since the status is Feedback requested and I really miss this functionality, this is how I want it done (already suggested in previous comments):

Add a checkmark in the dropdown menu that's named "Don't allow duplicates". When toggling this to true, the application goes thru all items in the list and removes duplicates. When you later add a track to a playlist that doesn't allow duplicates, it searches the playlist and does nothing if it's already added. I don't want a message box telling me that an item already exists, it's not helping me since I already specified the behaviour via the option.

I can't see why this isn't done, it couldn't take more than a day to implement this!

when i am browsing music forums i often search it and add it to playlist but sometimes that song is already added into playlist because i simply forgot about it xD so would be nice to see a notification that tells the song is already in the playlist so there not double 🙂

Great idea, I was thinking it would be great to show which play lists that particular song is already in... so for example when I stumble accross a song I really like sometimes I can't remember if I added it or not, but if it showed that it was in one of my playlists already then I would be happy that I had already added it.

Go to http://paulvi.nl/deduplicator/ - this does the job and is very easy to use:  Copy playlist to the deduper, press dedupe, delete original playlist on Spotify, then copy deduped list back across.
