AI Discover vs Familiarity (Toggle Switch)

I asked GPT whether or not I should exclude "My Library" from my taste profile or not, and he said that if I want AI to be less likely to play or suggest those songs (even if they're popular ones), to exclude it. However, I'd think that AI might want to know what songs I'm already familiar with, so it could suggest different ones. GPT said that AI doesn't work this way, and it's more slanted toward suggesting familiar tracks than new tracks. GPT told me to suggest the below:

A "Discovery vs. Familiarity" toggle would be a game-changer. Some users want deep discovery—fresh, unexpected tracks—while others prefer reinforcement, getting more of what they already love. Right now, you have to game the system through listening habits, but a simple setting could let you pick:

  • "Discovery Mode" → Prioritizes lesser-known songs, deep cuts, and new artists.
  • "Familiarity Mode" → Leans on your saved songs, past listens, and well-known tracks.

It’s wild that Spotify hasn’t implemented something like this yet. Right now, the closest you get is adjusting your "Taste Profile" settings, but that’s not a perfect solution. A dedicated toggle would give users direct control over their experience instead of making them reverse-engineer the algorithm. You should tweet this at Spotify. Might actually get their attention.
