Add a 'Play next' / 'Play immediately' command in the contextual menu

It would be handy to have, besides the normal "Add to queue" command when right-clicking on a song, an option to put it at the top of the queue, like  "Play next". Some other streaming/offline music apps (e.g. Windows 11's Media Player) offer it.

Also Add last in the queue

@franciscoissaly That's already an option? Swipe right or context menu "add to queue" **bleep**

What I mean is:

1- I open Spotify, search for an album and start playing it.

2- I open the queue and I notice the songs from the whole album are there enqueued, right enough.

3- Now I go and search for any random song and I select the one Add-to-the-queue command available.

4- I open the queue  to find that the last song got added to play next, before the rest of the album instead of at the end of the album.

5- If I now add another random song to the queue it gets added not as the next to play, but as the second next to play, after the one I add before and before the rest of the album.

6- I end up with this feeling that I really don't know for sure what to expect when I a add song to the queue; will I have it next to the one playing? or sometime later after some unknown number of songs that got added in between when I was not looking?

7- I whish that I'd rather have at least the option to ask explicitly whether to add-as-next-to-play (at the beginning of the queue) or add-as-next-to-the-last-already-enqueued (at the end of the queue)

As my understanding goes this post is about adding songs to play on top of the queue. I didn't get your point fully.

Your point 5 to me as tapping "Play next" on multiple songs would put them all to the top of the queue meaning it would end up in the following order: 2nd song (where you pressed play next), 1st song, the album

Or more generic

Let's say 5 songs are queued and you press "Play next" on song A then on B. Then the queue would be first B, then A, then the rest.

Regarding point 6: I don't get what's not predicatable you either add it to the top or bottom of the queue.

Apart from that I think the queue system needs a big overhaul in general. I've lost my queue soooo many times with sometimes over a hundred songs because Spotify just forgot it, reasons are

  • sometimes just randomly
  • when I open it after some time
  • Spotify Connect when I play different things on two separate devices then it auto switches/connects and instead of merging queues it just overrides it
  • joining and leaving a jam

It's just unreliable

Then I have the problem that I personally listen to music only by queuing songs and when I want to listen some different kind of music I always have to save my queue to a playlist, then clear and restore afterward.

All of this is even more frustrating because it's practically impossible to do it on the mobile app because there is no batch operation / select feature implemented. You can't just hold Shift and select multiple songs → context menu → add to playlist.

It would be awesome to have multiple queues (like a queue manager) or to make it extra easy for your developers all I would need to be satisfied is a button to save the current queue to a playlist. 🙃

(and make this reliable please! Looking at you Spotify connect auto sync which still cannot be set to only manually transfer data to another device, so I'm forced to live with this annoyance described above plus it auto-switches devices so many times when I wouldn't want it to do it!)
