Add an “8D Mode” Toggle for All Songs on Spotify

Okay so random idea at like 2am…

What if Spotify had an 8D Mode you could toggle on in your settings or Now Playing screen? Instead of only listening to songs that are specifically produced in 8D, the toggle would apply binaural spatial effects to any song in your library in real time.

So basically, any song could feel like it’s swirling around your head. This could be great for headphones, studying, vibing out, or just hearing your favorite tracks in a new way.

It could include simple controls too:

  • Intensity (light, medium, full orbit)
  • Speed of the movement
  • Auto-disable when not wearing headphones

I just feel like this could be a fun, immersive option to explore music differently. Not saying it has to be perfect, but I’d 100% use it.

Spotify, could we make it happen potentially?

That doesn't sound like something feasible. 8D audio is not exactly popular and as example I personally despise it, as it doesn't have use compared to an actual spatial upscaler.

And given how Spotify hasn't implemented Lyrics on Apple TV since 4 years (!)... no, this won't happen

Aye, I totally understand where you’re coming from, it’s definitely not everyone’s thing.

The idea came from a place of letting people feel music differently, especially those who don’t know about or can’t access spatial tech. It’s about accessibility and affordability, we have to acknowledge that not everyone can afford high-end headphones or know what plugins to use.

Just like a lot of features on Spotify, it wouldn’t be for everyone, but it could open the door for new artists, new listeners, and new vibes to emerge.

Also, I know every feature I mentioned might be harder to implement than others, but I wouldn’t say it’s not feasible. We already have 8D music today, that’s a starting point. It would just need to be researched and tested, like any new feature Spotify rolls out.

Even if 8D isn’t “popular” now, you never know what kind of creative spark a small toggle like that could ignite. That’s what makes ideas like this exciting to think about.

I think it's a cool idea! I know that not everyone will like it but that why you can toggle and un-toggle so that everyone can still enjoy music on their own way!
