Auto-Scroll to Currently Playing Song in Playlist on iOS/iPadOS (Match Android Behaviour)

Description:
In the Spotify app on Android devices, when a song is playing and the user taps on the playlist name from the Now Playing screen, the app automatically opens that playlist and scrolls directly to the song's current position. This is incredibly useful because it instantly gives users context—what songs came before, and what’s coming next, and allows them to quickly interact with the surrounding tracks (e.g., remove, move, or queue additional songs).

However, on iOS and iPadOS, tapping the playlist name from the Now Playing screen simply opens the playlist and places the user at the very top, regardless of which song is playing. For users with large playlists, this results in unnecessary frustration and wasted time as they must manually scroll and search for the currently playing track.

This behaviour is inconsistent across platforms and noticeably degrades the user experience on Apple devices.

Why It Matters:

  • Improved Usability: Automatically scrolling to the currently playing song makes playlist navigation more intuitive, especially when dealing with long or frequently updated playlists.
  • Efficient Queue Management: Users often want to make quick decisions about upcoming songs—like skipping, removing, or rearranging tracks. This becomes significantly harder when they first have to find the song manually.
  • Cross-Platform Consistency: Many users switch between Android and Apple devices. A consistent experience across platforms is important for usability and reduces confusion or perceived feature gaps.
  • Accessibility and UX: Scrolling through large playlists manually can be tedious for users with accessibility needs. This small change would significantly streamline interaction with the app.

Adding this functionality to iOS and iPadOS would align with the Android experience, making Spotify more efficient, intuitive, and user-friendly.

Genuinely shocking that this was a feature on iOS, then was removed there, but not for Android. Spotify actually hates their customer base.
