Enhance PiP Mode with On-Screen Lyrics for Better Productivity and Fun

For users who listen to Spotify while working, many use the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) feature to monitor and watch podcasts. Since some users love this feature, it would also be great to add an option to display lyrics or subtitles. This way, if users want to sing along to the chorus of a song while they’re on their work screen (e.g., Excel or other work tabs), they can follow the lyrics even if they don’t already know them.

I’d like to suggest a new feature: a picture-in-picture lyrics widget (or miniplayer) that shows only the lyrics of the current song.

This would work differently from the existing miniplayer. Instead of album art and playback controls, the widget would be a floating lyrics-only window that can stay on top of other apps. The lyrics would sync in real-time with the song, much like the in-app fullscreen lyrics view, but in a compact overlay format.

Unique scrolling style:

• The lyrics would move right to left across the widget (like a news ticker).

• The next line would already be half visible as the current line is playing, so users always know what’s coming next.

• This creates a smoother karaoke-like experience that feels natural and helps with anticipation when singing along.

Other key points:

• Lyrics-only focus: A distraction-free widget that just shows scrolling lyrics.

• Picture-in-picture style: Floats above other windows, so users can keep lyrics visible while working, browsing, or gaming.

• Optional controls: Could include simple play/pause/skip buttons, but the main purpose is karaoke-style synced lyrics. Adjustable size, position, and transparency to fit user preferences.

This would make Spotify more convenient for people who want to sing along without switching apps, and would also improve accessibility for users who rely on lyrics being visible at all times.
