Free audiobook listening time for all Premium members

While I'm grateful for the move to bring audiobooks to Spotify, the exclusive benefit of free audiobooks for the "plan manager" in duo and family memberships seems unjust. It diminishes the premium experience for other members who pay the same amount as their friends and family but don't enjoy the full premium benefits.

I acknowledge the cost-effectiveness of duo and family memberships, but the solution to a fairer listening experience could be to distribute the 15 hours among all members in your party. This way, duo members, for instance, would get 7.5 hours free—a reasonable compromise for the reduced cost.

It ensures fairness to all users and gives users the option to customise their audiobook time based on their plan size and budget.

  1. I find it completely ridiculous that Spotify finds it ok to limit a premium feature for a premium plan. We don't have need for an entire family membership at this time. Which is why we downgrades to the duo plan in the first place when it was offered. Both of us are paying for it. Why is it only available for one person?!?! And now they're raising prices and I'm certain the other party on my account /still/ doesn't have access to audio books. Make it make sense.

At the very least the manager should be able to chose a listener. My partner doesn’t listen to audiobooks at all and it’s an entirely wasted feature for him. And setting up a whole new account is an inefficient solution.

As a family plan member it seems unfair that only the Plan Manager can access this benefit. As its a part of the Family Plan, if the Manager has no desire to use the benefit, then that money is wasted. It should be able to be allocated to a specific user, or shared between the members. The time could still be 15 hours to split, but able to have more flexibility for it to be used since its sold as a benefit to the Premium plan.

I literally just reached out to support about this….how are we paying the same fees yet some are getting special feature…..we all need the audiobook feature….currently I have a family plan with just 3 ppl on it, I would be able to add my parents if they added the audiobook feature

Hi Spotify Community!

I love the new audiobook hours feature on the Premium Family Plan, but there are some months when I am too busy to take advantage of my hours. It would be awesome If I could pass them on to another family member who might have a book they'd like to listen to that month.

Thanks!

I totally agree with this, I am the plan manager but my partner who is also on duo with me loves audiobooks and it’s just not right that you increase the price to include audiobooks but only one person to gain the benefit. Additionally, 15 hours is just not enough, 24 hours would be better.

I don’t think the 15 hours should be spread across members. It should be 15 hours for all members or better yet, charge more and have unlimited audiobooks for everyone. I would much rather pay £19.99 for duo and have unlimited audiobooks for all plan members.

Add this to over 2 years of this being a discussion point on the forums and still no response or change.

They need to remove the words Family and Premium from the plan title. No sharing or allowing the plan manager to approve or pay, it goes to that account owners email on request. This makes buying books your childern want more difficult then it needs, but who would expect Family plans to include kids...  and Premium, only 1/6 of the accounts get full premium features.

This type of lack of thought out plans and trying to pinch every penny out of your subscribers is not a smart business model.

When you add that even if you buy a book its not shared with your Duo or Family. If your kids wants a book it prompts them to send a email to themselves on how to purchase rather than an  request to the account manager who pays for the subscription and has a registered credit card.

Makes you wounder if they just don't like families (or America), or just hate money.

Recently my partner tried listening to an audio book, i would never listen to them however as i am the owner of our account it only lets me listen to it, its kinda dissapointing that all members of your plan cant listen to certain things.....
