Improve Gift Card Transparency for Existing Users

As a long-time Spotify user, I recently received a 6-month Premium gift card through a wedding registry (Zola). I assumed it was equivalent to $60 in Spotify credit, but only later learned it was geared toward new individual users and couldn't be applied to my existing Duo plan.

This created a frustrating experience, not only was the gift unusable as-is, but after going back and forth with customer service, my partner and I had to cancel our Duo plan and switch to separate individual plans just to make partial use of the gift.

Suggestion: Please make the terms and limitations of gift cards clearer at the point of purchase, especially around:

  • Ineligibility for existing subscribers (and which plans are affected)

  • Inability to apply the value as general account credit

  • Restrictions tied to promotional or new-user-only offers

This small change would help avoid confusion and ensure a smoother experience for loyal users who receive Spotify gift cards.
