It should be possible to turn off all video content

Irreapective if you are on wifi or not. As a parent this would be an important feature

Totally agree on that! We were considering removing screen time limitations from Spotify. Now we are considering more family-friendly services.

I’m cancelling my Spotify subscription because I find the video content distracting. I don’t want my music platform to be a reflection of YouTube. I can see that Spotify is trying to Introduce new advertising revenue streams and keep its users on platform for longer. I disagree with both. I’ll be moving to Apple Music.

I 100% agree, this may actually be the decider on us getting rid of Spotify in favour of Apple Music since there are way better parental controls on that service. We found my teenager watching what was effectively pornographic content from an OnlyFans-style "podcast". This is highly inappropriate for teenagers, but also entirely inconsistent with an AUDIO APP!
Spotify, I believe that the only reason this hasn't already caused a mass-exodus of family accounts is because us parents have been slow to catch up on this huge feature rollout you've done. Sort this out or you'll be losing families.

I cast my vote mainly because I find the videos distracting and because the audio quality drops significantly when Spotify automatically plays videos.

It's really surprising how many video features you've added in the past year or so... Kids as young as 2-3 can easily operate these features. There's a major difference between a static cover photo and a video feature, please understand that as parents we're fine with our kids holding the phone as long as the displayed content is not a video.

Here's a few examples for video features you can't turn off. This is a dark pattern that promotes addictive behavior!

1. A small child easily and quickly learns that the small box above the song list let's them access a tiktok-like infinite scroll of videos.

2. After some trial & error, operational conditioning will help children operate music video with the touch of the button under the cover photo! Don't say you couldn't know...

I'm not a parent but I don't want video content by default either. When I play a playlist on my TV, I have to manually choose "switch to audio" every time - just because it's a TV being used doesn't automatically mean I want to watch stuff.

In addition, playlists seem to play different versions of songs when it's in video mode. I have a festive playlist that I've been playing during Christmas lunch and didn't bother changing the setting today because we're not looking at the TV anyway so didn't think it nattered. despite the correct version of the song being in the playlist, Spotify decided to play live/extended versions of some songs because they had video available. I assumed I'd put the wrong one in the playlist and went to fix it but these versions are nowhere to be seen. Now I've changed to audio only it's playing the correct versions of those songs.

I didn't give Spotify this autonomy! I always switch off Smart Shuffle because I want it to only play the songs I asked for, this is just another irritation and it all stemmed from not being able to default to playing with video off.

Totally totally totally. This is madness.

This is really very disappointing. There should be an option to disable video content for kids and it should be there very soon.

This is a thorn for years now. And Spotify ignores it. It really bugs me and it looks like the quality of these video podcasts is getting lower and lower. I get idiotic video podcasts promoted on the home screen. This is annoying. I bet spotify is trying to get on the yt train. If I wanted musik with videos I would sub yt.

Cowjai

Completely agree. I am fine with having videos but there needs to be an option to disable it. For many songs, the audio is kid friendly but the videos are not. Stop being YouTube or else we will just switch to YouTube, or use another service that is music only.
