[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and sharing your feedback.

We're setting this idea to Implemented with the introduction of the Fewer Repeats shuffling option which takes your recent listening history into account and can be found in Settings - Playback - Shuffle mode. Check out this For the Record post for more info.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community!

There is a lot I could say in response to the smarmy and denigrating "who cares" response above ranging from noting that one can care about different things at the same time to commenting on the joy that music can bring to being as sardonic as the above poster and suggesting that such comments are often signifiers of paid posters.  Of course, I'd never be so crass as to do that, so choose from the first two options.

Have you noticed Spotify plays the same songs over and over again on shuffle? I’m here to address one major topic. The algorithm of: “shuffle.” At this point I don’t think it should even be called shuffle, it should be “prioritizes songs that Spotify perceives you listen to most.” Because holy **bleep** do I get the same songs over and over and over. Everything else gets buried in the playlist and you eventually forget they were even there.

I want to promote a feature where you can choose and customize your shuffle to your liking. not just the three to four options we have now and are not sufficient. Social media complains constantly about listening to the same songs 24/7, and I am sick of it. As a premium member, I expect the highest quality from Spotify. But a simple shuffle algorithm can’t be fixed? Truly disappointing.

my main recommendation to the app: A shuffle feature that randomizes your playlist and doesn’t play the same genre, artist or similar content and same songs repeatedly. The songs are completely randomized, like an actual shuffle.

Lmk if you like this idea or you want further explanation! Please promote this on social media for further notice!! 100 vote goal!! 🙏

Well, unfortunately, you are several years behind on this problem.  Shuffle play has not worked for a long time and the best place to really vote for this would be https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/All-Platforms-Option-to-have-a-true-shuffle/idi-p/488059....  Also, unfortunately, Spotify really does not care what people think as some of the most voted items have been sitting for a DECADE.

we lost all our hopes, shame on you.

Let's plan for a coordinated unsubscribe attack to teach Spotify a lesson. XD

I'm done with Spotify. The only thing holding me is Spotify Connect. But it's not worth it anymore. I'm gonna check out Apple Music. They have hidef audio quality & music locker to upload my own missing songs. Bye

Absolutely. And my DISCOVER WEEKLY could all come off the same album. I listen to classical, hip hop, jazz, world, house, dance, electronic, Moondog, you name it. And yet... It's all this boring New Age blah mostly with lyrics that I NEVER listen to. HELP!

It's especially frustrating having my Last.fm account connected to Spotify and seeing songs not being played since 2021. WHY? The reason why I put songs on my Liked Songs it's because I want to listen them all, not just a few of them. SPOTIFY FIX YOUR SHIFT!

It's so unfortunate spotify's left out such a simple fix for so long. Personally, I use a website that (truly) shuffles my playlist and I save that version to use. Once I listen to it for long enough, I do it all over again 😄 at least we can work our way around the strange spotify systems hahaha

And

Which one would that be?!😀
