Song lyrics when using CarPlay

I believe this idea has surfaced on the community page before, but I can no longer find it - so let me reintroduce.

Please allow us to view lyrics to the songs we play when using Apple CarPlay!

I think it is pretty obvious why we'd want this feature implemented, and believe it should already be in place. And this isn't any major complication or challenge since lyrics are readily available on most other platforms (Mobile, Desktop, Smart TVs etc.).

As I do, and I bet many others as well, enjoy playing music on our car rides through CarPlay. Especially with friends or other company in the car. A simple thing like making the lyrics visible on the cars screen, opposed to having to hold up the connected phone, would make karaoke/sing-alongs that much more enjoyable. Even on solo rides, glancing over the cars screen is significantly safer (and less illegal) than holding your phone up with your hand to check the lyrics.

sounds like a safety issue to drivers around you

Terrible idea.  Please don't implement this for safety's sake.

Of course there’s a safety question with anything you put on a car screen. But if you believe it’s a bad idea, then it’s simply not for you to use. Neither is a GPS, or a screen in a car at that point. If you can’t glance away from the road whilst driving, I’m worried for drivers around you…

wizbowes
No you’ve missed the point entirely. I would never use it for sure. But I
believe it’s a bad idea for anybody to have it. You, me and the thousands
of other people.

In exactly the same way I don’t think cars should have swords strapped to
their hoods, I don’t think CarPlay should display lyrics. It’s not safe FOR
OTHER ROAD USERS.

That clear enough?
Jealous

How is your example even a reasonable comparison? There isn’t a single positive outcome of mounting a sword on your car. But in fact I believe it’s a good idea for me to have lyrics in my car for the sake of karaoke or other mentioned examples.

To give you more insight, plenty of car display movies/games/other forms of severely distracting content. As much as I agree that many drivers should have no contact with such things, it already widely exists.

To make a more reasonable and understandable comparison, anybody (with the budget) can go buy a car with ridiculous horsepower numbers and RWD, but realistically majority of people aren’t capable of handling such vehicles.

So, I absolutely agree that most people are in no need for lyrics being displayed in their cars. But this suggestion is far from the worst problem. And you fail to see anybody having any use for things that you wouldn’t use.

Should we ban smartphones being present in cars, because you believe it is a bad idea for anyone to have it? You, me and the thousands of other people?

i get the safety concern but if Spotify could enable locations and track speed to make sure the car isn't moving this would be a great idea, with car speakers and lyrics on screen you could basically have karaoke in your car which could do wonders for friend groups around the world. The amount of digital screens in cars are increasing and many of these screens allow you to browse the web/apps so its a matter of time till someone makes reading lyrics on screen universal. I understand that the last thing we want is a "distracted driver" but i also believe there is ways to make it so that the distraction is no more then looking at directions on maps.

So a CarPlay feature that doesn’t work when the car is moving? I mean.
Firstly that’s such a small group that would be interested in that. Like
when would you use this? Pull into a parking lot and have a karaoke party?

Second it still doesn’t address the safety issues. Having it on standing
traffic would still be possible and still distract the driver

Thirdly it would result in Apple and Google pulling the app from the App
Store because they sure as **bleep** aren’t going to allow that on there.

Fourthly - just use you phone. You want to sing karaoke in the car? You
already can with your phone. You act like if this was added suddenly you
could do it - but you already can do it.

So yeah. Just a terrible idea still.
