Add a pomodoro timer to Spotify

A pomodoro timer would be such a useful study tool for all of the ADHD and student listeners on Spotify. Basically how it would work is you could start a pomodoro study session then choose a playlist or song you would want to play in the background. Pls vote for this because I honestly think it would be so useful.

I came here to suggest this exact thing! As a user, I would like to be able to set a specific duration and the at the end of the set duration time prompt to start a break timer when I stop working. At the end of the break time, I would receive a notification or prompt to start playing the playlist again. An enhancement could be to play different things during the break.  It would be great if it also provided some controls for a series of pomodoros. Today, I have a number of playlists that are ~25 minutes long to create pomodoros, but have gravitated toward other apps for focus music and pomodoro tracking (neither of which I can do consistently across multiple apps.)

Well! I have been using the app/website for a while and suggest that they add a Pomodoro timer/stopwatch in-built in the app.

Imagine you are sitting down to work and want to have an intense period of focus.

In 25 minutes, you have a meeting coming up, and you need to accomplish something before that.

Some sort of signal that 20 minutes have passed would be very useful.

You are the kind of person for whom setting an alarm or a timer would actually distract you and cause you to repeatedly check the clock.

Music, on the other hand, allows for serene focus, and stopping that music would gently lead you out of that focus instead of creating a stressful, loud, instantaneous intrusion upon it.

You look for options in Spotify and find the "sleep timer." You are not going to use this timer for sleep, but it sounds useful anyway. The music will stop after a certain amount of time! You look for the option for 20 minutes... 5 minutes, 10, 15... 30. Why is there no option for 20 minutes? Or 25?

In fact, why can't we set the time ourselves?

No… why don't we create a second timer: The Focus Timer with customizable times and pomodoro features:

  • Play music for X minutes
  • Stop music for Y minutes (break time)
  • Play music for Z minutes, etc.

Music is a beautiful, soft, and stress-free way to use the pomodoro technique, avoiding the need for loud, annoying alarms. And Spotify doesn't yet allow it!

The pomodoro is usually based on 25-minute intervals, followed by 5-minute intervals, and then after 4 repetitions a longer 15–30 minute break.

There is much written about 15–25 minute periods of focus, and I think a lot of people would find this feature very useful. Not just for office/remote workers. Also think about:

  • a masseuse who gives 20-minute massages
  • a person performing a 15-minute workout without counting reps or with pomodoro intervals
  • someone who wants to clean for 25 minutes because it seems like an easier task than committing to cleaning the whole house
  • someone meditating for 15 minutes who doesn't want it to abruptly end

These things don't need to end suddenly with a loud alarm. Stopping the music would be a nice way to let the person notice on their own that 20 minutes have passed.
