The ability to disable the Jam function.

Ok so Jam function seems incredibly odd to begin with, but I suppose in a rare instance where you want to listen to love songs with someone who's far away at the exact same time, or you're running a silent Disco, there might be a use for it for a very small number of people.

But there should be an option to disable it in your settings. Let's start with the hypothetical scenario that I don't want to run into: A crazy ex or a stalker trying to send me their sad playlist everyday. Also, and possibly more frustrating, is the automatic prompt that comes of when you and another person listening to Spotify are on the same Wi-Fi. Why am I being sent an unprompted question without an invitation from another user in my home or business if I would like to join and listen to exactly what they're listening to at the same time. If I happen to want that, would I not just play the music aloud? We obviously already started listening to what we want to listen to on our own devices by ourselves, so why would I suddenly want to listen to exactly what they want to listen to?  Automatically searching for users on the same Wi-Fi seems crazy intrusive to me what if we're on a public Wi-Fi at a mall? How many prompts would you'd be receiving to join? Anyway I don't mind if this crazy feature (that I'm willing to bet a Year's membership that under 5% of users use monthly) stays on the app,  I just want the ability to turn it off so it doesn't bother me while I'm listening to music by myself.

Right not every device that I have is defaulted to be joinable from others on my WiFi network. As someone who lives with roommates and uses WiFi in areas like work and small stores this is a total invasion of privacy. Every time I turn on my Bluetooth speakers I shouldn’t have to check that I have other cant join my jam selected. Please let me turn this off as a default

Why is this taking so long to enable?  This should clearly be off by default and have the option to only approve requests, allow only friends, etc.  This is a privacy shitshow to be honest

Agree with everyone else on here PLEASE make this an opt-in feature. Surely it violates European law - it's a complete invasion of privacy. I hate it when my son ruins my morning shower with a hostile speaker takeover.... And I don't understand why you are pushing it so hard against such vocal opposition. Is a mole from a rival company trying to sabotage you?

Urgent: Disable Jam Auto-Join by Default - Security Vulnerability

Dear Spotify Team and Community,

The Jam feature, which allows strangers to connect to my phone or session via Spotify (e.g., on shared Wi-Fi or Bluetooth), poses a security vulnerability. Unwanted connections could potentially expose personal listening activity or disrupt playback, especially in public or shared spaces like dorms or offices. This feels intrusive and unsafe.

Suggestion:

  • Disable the Jam feature by default for all users.
  • Add a clear opt-in toggle in Settings (e.g., "Enable Jam Connections") so users can choose to activate it if desired.

This change would protect user privacy and security while keeping the feature available for those who want it. Please prioritize this fix!

Thanks,
Shay

I drive Uber. I use Android Auto to play my personal Spotify playlists while I drive. A stranger in my car was able to create a Jam session and change the music playing on my car speakers without permission. I do not want this to be a possibility. I would rather turn off the Jam function entirely over every device than have a random person near me able to change what I'm listening to while I'm driving and unable to leave the session safely. Is there any way for me to prevent people joining a Jam with my car? There doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off entirely on the app, or I would.

If this is not solved soon (1 week for announcing a solution is coming), I’ll disable my Spotify account

thanks

On that point, how are things looking for Tidal and others these days?

Any public outcries like this going unanswered?

Spotify, please add an option in app to completely disable jam from your profile, I am really insecure about my music and always get nervous about people joining my jam out of the blue, ruins premium for me as-well and I can’t even have my own privacy which is what I want to find in music.

right!

The start a jam feature should have the option to stay off by default, and only turn on if you choose.  It's an inconvenient and generally useless feature that I have to disable every time I want to listen to music at my studio.  The jam feature creates annoying interruptions in the playback like the track is skipping, and it drives me crazy.

Please, Spotify, add the functionality to leave this turned off by default.
