Why are some artists randomly becoming unplayable on Spotify?

Just today, one of my favorite bands, Mainstay, randomly had their account and content removed off of the app, even though they had a decent monthly listener count and play count for such a small, not-so-popular band. This doesn't seem to be just a random, everyday thing. Not all small artists just evaporate. I'm just trying to find out why this happens to some artists, and if anyone has any info why Mainstay specifically got removed, please tell.

Their music has also been removed on YouTube, except for one video playing the song "Life to Me". Is this situation worse than I thought for Mainstay?
