PUNK Playlists

PUNK Playlists

There is no Punk Tag in this board, but I think we should consider posting some punk-ish playlists anyway. I'll go first:

The Playlist is called #PUNKFRIDAY and is a collaboration of the following people: Ingo (DONOTS), Chris #2 (Anti-Flag) and Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners). So be sure to follow this list and don't miss any of the weekly updates.

What's your favorite Punk Playlist?

Hi,

We’re a punk band from London and have recently released our debut EP. It would be great to hear your thoughts and if anybody would like to include us on their playlist we would be really greatful.

See what you think - here is the first track from it.

I hope this is a good enough for for this thread. Here is a playlist I made charting the influences on the early Punks from Early Rock and Roll, through Garage, British Beat Invasion, Velvets and Stooges, the beginning of Krautrock, Punkadelia, The Heavier End of Glam, to the New York scene based around CBGB'S and Max's Kansas City. It ends with the release of the first British Punk single in 76

This week's playlist is the second instalment of the Soulstream - Punk
Trilogy. Following hot on the heels of Soulstream - Punk, the road to 76, where we examined the music that influenced the early punks, this playlist is a collection of my favourite Punk and New Wave songs from the riotous early years of punk. The period 76-79 corresponds roughly with the First Wave of English Punk, generally considered to be 77-78. I've included 79 as it allows me to catch the tail end and include such classics as Babylon's Burning.

There were three distinctive centres of Punk during this period, London (and the wider UK), New York (with some expansion to elsewhere in the US) and Toronto. I've grouped the songs roughly chronologically into these centres, with 1 song from Australia, Germany and Belgium thrown in
at the end. Grouping the songs like this enables us to see the contrast between the different scenes: The London scene is in general more poppy (as befits what was briefly a mainstream youth movement); The New York Scene is more experimental or closer to fast paced rock and roll; and
the Toronto Scene is much more Hardcore.

We can also see that some of the myths written by music journalists are once again nonsense. Most of these musicians could play their instruments, this isn't just anger expressed in loud noise. Certainly in
the UK scene this is just fantastic pop music, played loud and fast, with youthful energy, but **bleep** good pop tunes. A classic pop verse, chorus, verse, chorus structure, a catchy pop melody and a chorus you can sing (or shout) along to. The exceptions in the UK scene to this are mostly the female lead bands who do de-construct musical norms.

Anyway - Sing along, Shout along, Jump up and down, but **bleep** well enjoy Soulstream - Punk, the riotous years 76 -79
