My Question or Issue

Since the last Spotify update it has crashed constantly. I can hardly make it through a song without it crashing. And it rapidly drains battery all of a sudden. And my background refresh is off. So I have tried restarting my phone, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as logging out and logging back in. None of this happened until this last update. Anyone else?

Hey there folks,

We really appreciate you sharing your reports in the Community.

Our teams are aware and working on this but they have done their magic backstage to help improve things in the meanwhile.

So you won't miss that and any further improvements in the app, we'd recommend making sure you're always rocking the latest version available for your device.

You can also try some common troubleshooting steps in case they do the trick for you:

  • A clean reinstallation of the app
  • If your device has some sort of low power mode or app, try disabling or whitelisting Spotify
  • Enable Background App Refresh from your phone's Settings > Spotify

Since we'll be updating this thread with any updates we have to pass on, we'd also suggest leaving your +VOTE and subscribing to this thread via the three-dot menu on the original post.

If you're curious about what the different Ongoing Issues statuses mean, check this Spotify Answer.

Thanks!

My Question or Issue

Hello,

My battery drains very quickly when using Spotify. It's only a matter of hours to drain it completely and when looking at the battery usage info in settings, it clearly is only due to the Spotify app. The battery health is still 89%.

I find old posts with this problem, but never a solution...

Thanks for your help!

Hey @Mark_DQ, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a clean reinstall of the app following these steps.

If you're still having trouble, let me know what device this happens on, as well as the current software version.

Let me know how this goes!

Same issue. I have an iPhone 8, running iOS 14.2. Spotify is updated to latest version which is when the issues started. Battery will drain rapidly. And the app constantly crashes. I can hardly make it through a song before it crashes. I’m lucky if I get three. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have tried logging out and logging back in. Background refresh is is turned off and I have restarted my phone. I would love a fix to this.

Hey and @Mark_DQ and @cbm1296,

Thanks for writing about this here in the Community.

Jumping in with @Billy-J to ask if you already tried a clean reinstall of the app (as opposed to a quick one) together with restarting your iPhone.

If there's any temporary error, following those steps should do the trick.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers!

Hello,

I already restarted and did a new install. Didn’t find the time yet to do a decent test, but Spotify still is in the top 3 of power users. I’ll have to use Spotify for a longer time at once to be able to tell the difference....and there’s another issue to be able to be 100% sure this helped. I sold my iPhone X and am waiting for my new one to arrive. Will be another model, so no perfect comparison.

I keep the link in my favorite bar, so I don’t forget to mark it as solved if that was a solution.

Regards,

Mark

Sounds good. We appreciate you keeping us posted.

I also am having the same issue. I have an Apple Itouch 7 generation that stays updated. Was having no issues until the most recent update from Spotify. Batter will last maybe 3 hrs at best. And that's with a few self pauses it started doing. I usually wear almost 11 hours with out having to charge. Thought it was an issue with Itouch until I was listening to music I have downloaded to device. No battery problems. Just when running Spotify. Thanks.

An uninstall and install is the first thing I did along with restarting my phone. None of this happened until the update last week. Uninstalling is not a solution.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

@cbm1296, we've found another thread where users are reporting similar app behavior. You can check it out here. What we can recommend is switching off Background app refresh. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

@drofrah, since your issue is about a different device the possible troubleshooting would differ a bit. Have you tried running a clean reinstall of the app. This includes deleting the app cache. You can find a detailed guide on how to do that in this Spotify Answer. If the app keeps draining your battery after that, tell us your exact device model and OS version + Spotify version.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Thanks.

I’m using Spotify premium on my iPhone 11. Battery used too last 10 hours and use about 30%, now Spotify is killing my battery in less than 3 hours and making my phone run hot. App also crashes constantly, started about 3-4 days ago.
