How long do you have to listen for a song to count as "played"?

Solved!

How long do you have to listen for a song to count as "played"?

With the current discussions going on with the payment of artists from streaming services, I was just wondering for how long a song has to be listened to to count as played.

It's three seconds to show up in your history, 40 seconds to show up in the Activity Feed and 50% to scrobble to last.fm. Which of these, if any, does Spotify use to count track plays?

Hey there,

I'm pretty sure I read in the community that the limit is 30 seconds.

After a little research, here is the thread: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Accounts-and-Subscriptions/When-and-how-does-Spotify-count-song...

Hope that helps 🙂

I don't know for Spotify, but e.g. on Last.fm it afforded a full listening of the song till the end in a radio station to be counted in their Artist Royalty Program.

You might find more related information on this page though:

Thank you!

It is 30 seconds. But please, if you really like song, why not to listen it fully?

Because you may NOT like an artist but want to hear his stuff without giving him credit. Or are sampling an artist you DO like and want to hear bits of the new album AND want to give them credit. Kapish?
