No sound through spotify.connect to Cocktailaudio X40

I used iOS and Android to try using the spotify connect to my X40, the connection was made but there was no sound from the X40 to my pre-amp.  I tried to use Shareplay/Airplay, it works.  But from my understanding, I should be able to have a better sound quality if I use spotify connect, right?  How can I get it done?
