Extend Premium Student After 4 Years

Solved!

Extend Premium Student After 4 Years

Plan

Premium Student

My Question or Issue

Please extend Premium Student. I have had Spotify since 2016 and also have been a student since 2015. I am still (unfortunately) still a student in university. I am no longer allowed to have the student pricing since I have had it for 4 years. What is the purpose of this cap on years for students? Some of us don't graduate right on time. As long as I have a valid student email address, I don't see what is the issue. I don't want to have to switch to Apple Music just to get the cheaper price, but I can't afford 10$ a month while in Uni for Spotify, despite loving the service.

I know I am not the only one who has posted this request, but it always gets turned down when people request for this. It is just senseless to limit people even when they meet the rest of the credentials.

Hey @Ampz ,

Thanks for reaching out 🙂

The average length of higher education lasts about 4 years in most countries, which is why Premium Student only lasts up to 4 years.
Spotify understands that some students stay longer at a college/university, but unfortunately, no special exceptions can be made in such case.

You can alternatively check out other reduced-price plans like Premium Family or Duo.

Hope this clears things up!

Adding in my voice here: also cancelling and moving to Apple Music.  See ya Spotify.

Well, my last remaining year for the student premium will be next year and I am still in my undergrad program. It's pretty expensive to pay the regular subscription fee when I am still a college student. I do hope Spotify will make an action for this concern.

"We understand that things can feel frustrating when things don't work as you'd like them to. Rest assured that we're always strive to improve." If Spotify strives to improve, you will understand that higher education can take well over four years. Your response reads, "oh, we know it takes more than four years, but f*** off everyone." No response is better than this response. Very disappointing. I am cancelling this as well.

See ya later Spotify. Hello apple

Dang you'd think Spotify would have something in place for people moving from undergrad to masters at least geez. Guess I'll just join the majority and move to apple music too -shrugs-

I'm gonna have to change my music app from Spotify to another. Even though I'm still in college after four years (my graduation takes 6 years to complete) Spotify won't let me have an student plan anymore. Honestly, I don't understand in what way is it better for them to lose a client than to allow to have one that pays half the price (even being a student still).

100% needs to be fixed and addressed. I understand the terms but this should be allowed to renew if you have a valid email address and proof of documents. I will be switching to Apple Music how sad. Majority of your users are in college suggesting the same thing. Obviously Spotify has not gotten enough emails and questions about the same thing. You should change it due to the people who will be switching to better and smarter platforms.

My Question or Issue

Ben 4 yıldır öğrenci premium kullandığım için öğrenci planım iptal edilmiş ve bireysel plana geçmiş. 4 yıldan fazla kullanılamadığı söyleniyor fakat ben hâlâ öğrenciyim ve öğrenci planını kullanmak istiyorum.

Sad to hear Spotify does not extend the policy to those students obtaining a doctorate degree. Surely they must disregard these students from obtaining higher education.  Obviously they're using shearid to verify student status through the National Clearing House database. They can verify they're still students, but they just don't care about students obtaining higher education forever they believe and why is only 4 years. It's the standard bachelor's degree and that's all you deserve. We do not care about our futuee doctors. That's the policy.

This answer is honestly a slap in the face and it would’ve been better to not answer at all. Everyone here is another potential customer lost to the competition.

“when things don’t work as you’d like them to”

what a joke of a response to insinuate your users are spoiled brats for asking for extended college pricing when they are indeed still in college and can prove it.

Same happened to me. Ive already made my renewal, and ive not been hacked. It happened before and i solved by making my sheer id again in lees than 1 month. This time I can't cause appears an error message. I can't pay and i can't renew my signature, what am i supposed to do?

The majority of students who graduate do so in 4 years. I guarantee you that the average length of higher education lasts longer than 4 years in most countries, considering how not many students are able to graduate in 3 years or less, but MANY students remain in higher education for 5 or more. Not only do some students need that long to finish a major, but some also need to stay in school for doctorates and the like in order to get a good job in their field.

This is a great way for Spotify to alienate long time users of the service. College students are particularly vulnerable financially and to hit them with $5 a month more while in grad school or in the final year of college is sort of a slap in the face. Especially when there are other services that continue to offer student discounts. I have so many of my friends who switched to Apple music for the student plan after their 4 years were up.

Im going to switch to either Tidal or amazon music, Tidal supports a 50% student discount as well as having lossless music at the same price as Spotify. Amazon music is a better deal if you want high-quality music too, half the price of Tidal for the super high-res music.

same problem

I don’t understand why Spotify is not interested in their customer’s interests at all. It’s completely unfair to “punish” those who are going for a higher degree. As someone who’s going for a PhD, it makes me very disappointed in an app I’ve loved and used for years. Your responses don’t even seem like you’re considering the idea; you’re just waving us off so that you can continue to make more money. It’s such a shame that a company like this can still put profit over a loyal customer’s needs and interests. Maybe try to be a little more empathetic, and more people would join this cash grab of an app.

It's about money. if they let people have a half-price subscription indefinitely, thats $5/mo that they're out for 1 million people that use the platform. and they assume that after 4 years of using it, no one will want to completely switch their music library, and they're right for the majority of people. Offering a student discount is not primarily about helping students, its a business strategy.

No one said to have the student discount indefinitely so your statement is
irrelevant. If you’re currently studying in university you should receive
the student discount. You’re welcome.

-thanks,
Your student users

Just give me another bundle with Hulu still in the mix. I have to figure out my entertainment completely bc I use Spotify & Hulu. With the bundle completely disappearing, unfortunately Spotify is going to be left out for another bundle that includes Hulu, bc thats non-negotiable to me. I already Prime and can use their music, but theyre still lacking essential TV that Hulu has. Not only that but "commercial free" isn't everything to me, I need the best deals and  Spotify simply doesn't have it. I'd love to continue to include Spotify in my entertainment bills, but not at full price with nothing but Spotify. Hulu a bundle for around the same price & it includes 3 services. Amazon has 2 day shipping, music, & TV. Netflix has already been trimmed too from my bills too, because they don't offer a bundle.
