My Question or Issue
Hey there @GGP,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
Based on what you mentioned, you currently have Premium. In this case, if the aforementioned steps didn't do the trick for you, you can try canceling the current plan you have and waiting for your account to revert to the free service. Then, you should be able to re-subscribe with the student discount here. No worries, you won't lose your content in the process, you'll just need to re-download it when you re-subscribe to Premium.
Hope this helps. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
I made a stupid typo, I meant Google Play balance and not Google Pay balance. Unfortunately, I could not find a way to use Google Play balance on desktop, but I used it to get the Premium Individual plan on the mobile app.
Thanks!
Hey @cataclysmnik,
Thanks for the response and clarification!
While you can check your Google Play balance both on desktop and Android, you can at the moment only pay for Spotify Premium via Google Play Billing on Android.
For details on how to check your balance, you can head over to this help article.
When it comes to changing your subscription from Individual to Student, this should be possible on Android, but there may be some kind of a temporary issue and that's why nothing happens as you mentioned when you click either on "Monthly subscription" or "1 month".
Just in case, I recommend that you check out this article from our support site and more particularly the steps under "Not working?".
Keep us posted and don't hesitate to let us know if you've got any other questions 🙂
Dear Spotify Team,
I hope you’re doing well.
I am interested in purchasing the Spotify Premium Student plan, as it perfectly suits my needs. However, I have encountered a limitation in the available payment options. The current payment methods only include UPI or card, but I primarily use Google Play Store payment through recharge codes.
It would be incredibly helpful if you could enable the Google Play Store payment option for the Spotify Premium Student plan. This feature would make it much easier for me and likely many other students in similar situations to access your premium services.
I kindly request you to consider my feedback and enable this payment feature. I truly value Spotify and hope you can accommodate this request.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Best regards,
<sensitive info removed>Hey @xsandy_18,
Thanks for reaching out.
The availability of certain payment methods can vary over time and can also vary between plans. Unfortunately, it's not possible to provide details on whether and when this payment method will become available for the Premium Student plan in your country/region, if at all.
I hope this clears things up 🙂
Still dosent work when i go from direct browser it dosent send a pay request to my associated payment app + the payment through the app also dosent work as i keep clicking on the 59₹ option but still dosent redirect or work.
Hey @Soham4308,
Thanks for reaching out.
Just to confirm, when clicking on the desired plan both in the app and the browser, you're not being redirected to the payment page, correct? Can you try again in an incognito window with a different internet connection/different device? If there's a VPN installed, please disable it temporarily.
Let us know how it goes.
When I did this, the browser sent me back to the application to switch the plan and it still isn't showing up on the application.
Hey folks,
Thanks for your replies.
Note that if you're currently the manager of a Premium Family/Duo plan, you need to cancel your subscription and wait for the account to revert to free before you can subscribe to Premium Student.
@RosaTheSmall0001, can you please confirm you've tried from the app's settings? (Settings > Account > Your plan > See available plans) If that doesn't work, let us know how things look on your end so we can investigate further.
Cheers,
Hey @RosaTheSmall0001,
Thanks for the additional details!
Just to confirm, is only the Student plan missing as an option in the app? Or are you able to see other plans, like Duo and Family?
Also, could you try changing the plan directly from your account page to if it behaves in the same way? Just head over to this page > Manage your subscription > Change plan.
Let us know how you get on!
Thanks for following up @RosaTheSmall0001!
To make sure we cover all bases, could you try clearing cache from the app and then log out/back in again? This will resync and update the account info.
If possible, you can give another internet connection a shot as well. For example, if you're currently using 4G/5G, you can connect to WiFi. Also, should you be using VPN, make sure to switch it off, as it's may interfere with the app performance.
Should it still not appear, however, try clicking on Premium Individual. At the checkout page (before entering the payment info), you can try changing the plan to Student instead. The 'Change plan' button is usually visible in the top right corner above the plan info.
Fingers crossed this helps!
Similar issue here, I have been verified as a student but when I try to click to change the plan to student it kicks me back to the main overview page. I’ve tried using a direct link and had the same issue.
I've been verified by SheerID but I can't select/click on the premium student plan. The page kicks me back to the main overview page. I've tried going through "your plan" on the overview page and "change plan" > "premium student", then the url automatically returns to "https://www.spotify.com/us/account/overview/". I've tried using the direct link from SheerID's confirmation email, same issue. I've tried using another direct link I found in a community topic, same issue. Seems like a glitch in the system. Please assist. I've paid premium individual for years and will discontinue services if I can't get my student discount processed.

Hey, all!
I've recently been enrolled into college here in the United States, and wanted to take advantage of Spotify's student plan. I've been a Spotify Premium user for a few years, so I was excited to get started. I went through the verification process via my Windows PC and, just as I was verified, it told me: "Grab your phone...
We noticed you’re already subscribed to a Premium plan through Google Play. To get this offer, open the Spotify app on your phone and select the Premium plan you prefer."
So, of course, I navigate to the Spotify app on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and go to change my plan over to the Student plan, only to find that it wasn't available for me to switch to. So, to troubleshoot, I went ahead and cancelled my Spotify Premium subscription, which is set to end on 03/15/2025 (or 15/03/2025 for my non yee-haw folks.)
No matter what I do, I cannot get Spotify Student to appear on my available subscription tiers. I've tried my PC (Opera GX, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge all came up with the same result) and my cellphone (Google Chrome browser and the Spotify application.)
Is there a way for me to end the rest of my previously paid for monthly subscription early, or am I just expected to wait until March rolls around to gain access to Spotify Student?
Thanks in advance!
