Discover new music

Hello all,

I hope this topic hasn't been discussed at length too much, but I used to use a website called last.fm and before CBS corporate purchased and destroyed this amazing tool, I discovered many new artists based on my music tastes that I would never have before.

Does Spotify have anything like this that isn't arbitrarily obtuse? 

I don't think that having to follow artists and the weekly playlists, etc...is something that is going to introduce me to songs and artists I haven't already heard before.

Or is there another website similar that can guide me?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
