Getting current playback state if item is playing on another device

So to display current playback state I am using an event of the Web SDK `player_state_changed`. After user switches playback to another device, for example an iphone, how do I get an updated playback state after that? Event is not firing when I change song/playback on that another device. I could just span requests every 1 second to get playback state, but that's kinda bad. What should I do in this case? Is there a solution for this that I missed?
