Question about banned uses of API

Question about banned uses of API

Hello everyone!

The Spotify Developer Policy section II.4.c states that "You must not offer metadata, cover art, and/or Audio Preview Clips as a standalone service or product".

I have a question about what this means in practical terms. Let's say I'm building an app that allows you to look up any track's BPM, key, time signature, average loudness and genres associated with the artists who made it.

- Would it be in violation of the policy as a standalone service that provides metadata?

- Would it be any different if I added an option to list the tracks in a user's library and display this kind of data about them? (The difference in my view being that its not just any metadata displayed, but rather metadata about the user's favourite tracks, therefore it being a more user-tailored service then a simple metadata lookup).

- If not, would such app become acceptable under the terms if I added additional functionality on top of displaying this data, let's say, suggesting tracks with a similar BPM and genre or something like that?

Thank you!

Developing an app focused solely on providing Spotify metadata, such as track BPM, key, time signature, loudness, and artist genres, may raise concerns about violating Spotify's policy. To align more closely with the guidelines, introducing user-tailored features, like displaying metadata for a user's favorite tracks, adds a personalized touch. However, the interpretation of being a standalone service can still depend on the extent and uniqueness of these additional functionalities.

To further enhance compliance and distinguish your app, consider incorporating additional features that go beyond basic metadata lookup. For instance, suggesting tracks with similar BPM and genre adds value and transforms the app into a more comprehensive and unique experience. Always stay on the safe side with Spotify's policies.
I'll be barking up the wrong tree if you don't keep me posted,
