Questions about research use of the Spotify API

Questions about research use of the Spotify API

Although the committee was told that it was acceptable to conduct analytical studies using machine learning as long as it complied with the terms and guidelines, Section IV, 2-a-I makes it seem as if the use of machine learning is prohibited.

I am a university student. I have a question for my graduation research.

In my research, I would like to create a model to predict related songs and artists based on listeners' music preferences by obtaining song similarity and other information from metadata obtained from the Spotify API.

In doing so, I would like to use machine learning to analyze the similarity and build the model.

Would this research be a violation of the terms of the agreement?

I have the same question. It looks like it's not permitted (even for personal use), which is a shame.

Spotify offers a number of datasets available for research, you can see them at https://research.atspotify.com/datasets/.  Maybe the dataset made available as part of the https://www.aicrowd.com/challenges/spotify-million-playlist-dataset-challenge is what you're after?
