Hey, I created this thread to get your feedback on our blog post around changes to the Web API extended access criteria, which will take place on May 15th.
Please share any of your thoughts on this change in the comments below. All of your feedback will be reviewed and compiled so I can share directly with the S4D team.
Whilst I won’t be replying to individual pieces of feedback in this thread, please know that everything shared here will be read and considered. Any related threads or questions posted elsewhere on this topic will be merged here so everything is in one place.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Update:
It blows my mind that there are 2 levels now:
- An eternity in 'dev' with max 25 users and limits
- An enterprise 250k MAU 'developer' (i.e. company)
Why not have a hobbyist level or something similar. Happy to accept rate limits etc. I'd happily share my useful app with 100 - 200 friends and call it a day. This could be the best of both worlds -- "unlimited" users, restrcitions on QPM and API requests, even the type of data accessed.
But to limit it to 25 or 250,000 is absurd.
100-200, where you don’t have to manually add them all, would be great. Doesn’t help people who want to make a business around it, with the impossible jump to 250K still, but good for hobbiests with a “for mates” site.
Once again, like most corrupt governments, Spotify doesn't listen to you unless you are bringing the $$ with you. They've already showed their colors to us, with their ludricrous reporting system that allows people to report your playlist based on "I just don't like it." Imagine if the cops worked that way.
Oh yeah. They do. In England.
The rest of us can sit back, watch, and shake our heads. And go elsewhere to dev our apps.
How am I meant to get to 250k if I can't go past 25? What kind of math is that or am I missing something?
Ok so I being way ok
Nice
Hey yall I'm new please introduce me pls
I. D. K!!
Nice, I hope it works this time, hopefully.
Hold up Spotify not trying to be rude but yall need to step yalls game up stay on top of stuff and yall need to fix this ASAP, thank you
Yo bro fo real, they need. To step there game up a lot
This is disappointing, as all of the previous comments have explained.
At this point, Spotify should just make the API private. You can't say you have a public API for developers and then only allow massive companies to use it. That's not a developer API - it's a private partnership model. You can't have your cake and eat it too by saying you have a developer API, but then not allowing developers to launch products. You have a Partner API - no need to publish it.
I believe this is the worst decision the management at Spotify has ever done.
If I would be the CEO of Apple Music, I would be very happy right now.
Spotify's API is what drives artists and developers into promoting Spotify's artists and playlists.
This is a chicken and eggs situation, how can I supply stats on users when I can't actually offer my app to users? Or am I missing something? Until I can allow anyone to sign up, I don't have any users!
For real.
Título: Una IA DJ: mezclas personalizadas con inteligencia emocional
Propuesta:

I’m using the API to access my own playlists, but the recent changes made it impossible to get Blends or Mixes in Development Mode. Requiring a registered business for Extended Quota Mode feels unfair for personal use. Any workarounds?
I wish.

Sounds exactly like https://llmdj.com - due to the changes in this thread the app can't be used unless your email is allowlisted though.
Just out of curiosity... has anyone who submitted their app before the 5/15 deadline had their app approved (or disapproved) recently?
I submitted on May 14. Recently got a message saying "The review is taking longer than expected. We are currently assessing your use case together with other involved departments resulting in a delay. We apologize for the inconvenience and will reach out to you as soon as possible."
Curious if everyone is getting this message or if it's just me. Also curious if anyone is getting approved or rejected, etc. Thanks in advance for any news!
