What is a streaming SDA?

Solved!

What is a streaming SDA?

My Question or Issue

I am trying to understand what a streaming SDA is and therefore, what a non-streaming SDA is.

Who can point me to somewhere that I can read more specifially where the difference is?

Thank you.

Hey @alsc, thanks for posting your question here!

You can read more about SDAs (Spotify Developer Applications) in the Spotify Developer Terms of Service. (Section II-9, 11 and 12). Let me know if you have any questions about this!

Have a great day,

Thank you. To understand completely.

Streaming is if I let users play a full song while non-streaming is either audio preview clip or no music at all?

Is that correct?

Additionally, does that mean that I do not need a written approval for commercialization if I only use audio preview clip in a service?

Hey there,

I’m afraid I cannot give you an official and binding interpretation of these Terms and Conditions.

Personally, I think you’re right as the terms state audio preview clips are not included for “Streaming”.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you!

Have a good one,

Hi, I am curious if you ended up successfully monetizing the app without any restrictions?

Not yet, no. It stayed a hobby project.

the iOS SDK is a remote, its technically not streaming. is this considered a non streaming application SDA?

@mjynrose I believe, based on this link from Spotify (https://developer.spotify.com/compliance-tips#special-considerations-for-streaming), that even usage of the iOS SDK as a remote still qualifies as a "Streaming SDA":

Streaming apps include:

  • Apps using Web Playback SDK to play music
  • Apps using our /v1/me/player/play endpoint to play music
  • Apps using the /v1/me/player/next endpoint where music could be next
  • Apps using the /v1/me/player/previous endpoint when music could be the previous entity
  • Apps using the iOS or Android SDKs to start, stop or modify playback of music
  • Apps using any other Spotify API or SDK to control playback of music or stream music
