My Question or Issue

the before and after fields are utterly useless for the recent played tracks endpoint (/me/player/recently-played) in the web API. Specifying before yields an empty array while specifying after does nothing different than when no parameters are given.

I saw similar posts on the internet and this forum a few years ago and decided I might as well make a new one to see if there are any updates. I am having trouble with the node SDK as well as the console (https://developer.spotify.com/console/get-recently-played/).

Basically just wondering if anyone else is able to get before and/or after fields to work when hitting this endpoint. If not, then oh well and the documentation should be changed. If you can, please help 🙂

Hey, Welcome to the community!! 😉

Sorry Spotify cannot provide any information on the music that was played before or after the recently-played song. Spotify only provides information on the recently-played song, such as the artist, album, and track name.  Additionally, Spotify does not provide any images related to the recently-played song.

To add to the previous answer, the limit is the last 50 tracks.

Edit: added "the last" after BayEcho0's comment

Thank you for commenting on this post. 😉

This means that if you use the /me/player/recently-played endpoint, you will only be able to retrieve the last 50 tracks that you have played. This means that you cannot use the "before" and "after" parameters to get a larger range of tracks.

Hey there, Welcome to the Community!! 😉

What do you mean by "Add added "the last" after BayEcho0's comment"

True! Super frustrating. At least change the documentation after all this time to reflect how useless this endpoint is.
