Certain song never gets to the "On Repeat" playlist

A certain song that I've been hearing a lot lately never gets included in the "On Repeat" playlist.

We understand that you're hearing a song on repeat lately and you're not seeing it in your On Repeat personalized playlist yet. Keep in mind that this list takes into consideration a larger pool of data (your liked songs and the number of plays), factoring all your previous listening preferences and past playback patterns. It might need some more time or plays over time, for your new favorite tune to enter into this list, as there could be stronger contenders already there. Also make sure you've liked the song and that you're not listening to it while using a private session, as this will exclude it from being factored for your personalized playlists. 

Another advice we can give is to listen to the song in full, in other words not skipping or rewinding it, as this might confuse the algorithm in terms of your actual preference towards the song. More tips on how to improve your personalized playlists could be found here.

I truly suspect that there's a problem with this specific song.

I've been listening to it a lot, in full, without skipping or rewinding. I've listened to it more than to other songs that are in the "On Repeat" playlist.

Maybe there's a specific problem with it?

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you observe, if this is the behavior after some more iterations of the On Repeat playlist? It may take some time for the song to be included.

Is this happening only on one song? Do other songs you're listening on repeat recently get included in the playlist?

Hi Dian,

It's been a few iterations of On Repeat already, and the song hasn't appeared at all.

Other songs that I've listened to twice or three times are in this playlist, and only that specific song still doesn't appear there even though I've listened to it at least 7-8 times during the past 2 weeks.

Thanks for your reply.

In this case, we recommend that you log out everywhere. You can do this here. Once you do it, clear the cache from the app (phone) by heading to Home > Settings > Storage > Delete cache. 

Afterwards, restart your device, log back in and give it a week in order to see if the song is listed there (while you keep listening to it). 

We'll keep the volume down until we hear back from you.

I've had this happen with one specific song - I've listened to it for literal hours on repeat, and yet it will never show up. Meanwhile I listen to another song 5 or 6 times and suddenly at the top of my list. It seems a little suspicious as the former is an instrumental from an OST for a pretty old movie and another is an Elton John song...

Are you listening to that song within a playlist? If yes, check if you've enabled Exclude from your taste profile in the playlist settings (the 3-dot-menu).

This has also happened to me recently. One with an Opera song, the other with a track from the Nutcracker soundtrack. I was listening to nothing but that Opera track for like 2 weeks and it never appeared on the On Repeat. Now with the nutcracker song, same thing. Both are on a short playlist I recently made. I had on heavy rotation for a few weeks - every song but those two are listed on my On Repeat. Taste profile is enabled.

Hello, I have also had this problem for a while. I’ve been listening to this piece called Alvamar Overture over 100 times since May 2023, but it never shows up on my On Repeat playlist. I haven’t skipped it and taste profile is enabled, but only Receptify has detected this song, and it’s 1st on my receptify every month, so is it because the song is too unpopular?

Thanks for the reply. We're aware that certain music, in particular classical pieces, are sometimes not recognized correctly by the algorithm and included in generated playlists. We're looking into this and always trying to improve the system. We'll happily pass your feedback onto the appropriate team. Be advised however that we cannot say for certain at the moment when or if this is going to get implemented.

I am also having this issue. I’ve been listening to the Loki Main Them - Epic Version, on repeat for weeks and it’s never once shown in my On Repeat list. Also, for the past two weeks I’ve had my Xmas playlist on constantly and not one Xmas song is showing in my On Repeat list. Yet, I happened to listened to a song a couple of times and there it is. This has been an issue for a few years now.

Same issue, and have tried everything listed in this post. Stand Alone by Bob Marley will NOT show up in my on repeat list, even though i’ve been listening to it on repeat- more than any other song- for weeks! such a frustrating glitch on spotify. wish it would let us manually add to the playlist since the robot isn’t doing its job properly.
