I've been trying to remove songs from a collaborative playlist that I have with my friend, however I'm unable to do so. I am currently using the Spotify desktop app and I have followed/liked the playlist. Although I can click and see the "Remove from playlist" button, but whenever I click that, the song just pops back. Any idea on why this is happening?
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies so far.
We can confirm that the way collaborative playlists work was changed recently. The playlist owner still has full control over the playlist and can add or remove tracks freely, but when it comes to collaborators, they can only remove the songs they've personally added. This is done to prevent the potential unwanted data loss within the playlist.
Hope this clears things up. The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
Cheers!
For me and my colleagues the feature was broken a few days ago already.
It started around 5 days ago, never started working again.
Running into the same behavior. We have several shared playlists and only the owners are able to delete from them all of the sudden.

Thanks for your Reply, that makes things a whole lot clearer.
Is there any possibility that this will change in the future? Or can we send in suggestions regarding this somewhere?
I don't know how much of an effort it is to implement this as an option for example? Meaning that the owner has the choice to either give others the right to remove songs as well, or to keep those rights to him/herself.
Hi @DikkeMoi,
Thanks for the reply!
Here's an idea about adding multiple users who can edit the collaborative playlist's content that's caught our developers' attention and is currently being considered, so we encourage you to check it out, +VOTE for it (if you haven't already) and share your feedback. You can also Subscribe to the thread so you're notified when there are any updates on the matter.
Stay safe!
Same exact thing is happening to me. It’s gotten to the point where I actually can’t delete the songs from my collab playlist!! They just pop right back up when I remove them. This is so frustrating. Main offenders are artists named Pesokone and Empty Elevator. Please ban these accounts permanently and remove the bot accounts!
Hey @lokonji,
Thanks for posting here.
We are working on adding more features for controlling the playlists privacy as well as the permissions.
We'd recommend that you click on the three dot menu and turn on the Make private option in order to make the playlist private. That way you can remove the collaborators.
After that you can share the URI of the playlist with the people, who you want to become collaborators.
If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.
Almost every one of my playlists has been infiltrated by these bots now, and as aforementioned it’s the same for me - the minute I remove the songs they’re added straight back. I’ve tried to add links to all of the accounts adding the tracks but it says I’m posting invalid HTMLs. Please could someone assist as well as to let me know if you need anymore information? I will do the troubleshooting steps you’ve suggested, but can you please tell me why you’re continuing to stream the artists when they’re clearly not genuine? It’s making me want to change streaming platform, to be honest…
I have the same issue. Pesukone terrible music added to my playlist and I can't remove it.
Please fix this issue. It's very annoying.

Hi there folks,
Thank you for your replies.
Can you confirm if these songs have been added by you?
On another note, do you get the same behavior if you're trying to remove them from a different device?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Hi Spotify,
This problem is here for months and there is nothing you guys have done. Every time the same story about collaborate playlists. I have playlists wich are not public and only shared with my girlfriend(same premium account), so how is it possible for someone/bot in the first place to spam and collaborate to my playlist???? There is a breach in your system and it needs to be fixed asap. Here are the links to the accounts that are spamming my playlists.

@Yordan not sure why you merged my thread and the 30+ replies on spam bots adding to playlists with this one. Definitely related, as this thread addresses an important problem that becomes an issue when we have lots of spam bots on Spotify posting to our playlists.
But my thread (and the replies) is specifically talking about the issue of spam bots existing rather than the symptom. So merging it as a reply to this post feels like a way for Spotify to sweep the overarching issue of the existence of spam bots under the rug.
Hi folks,
Thanks for keeping the thread alive!
The privacy policy has now been changed and you can see how you can alter the privacy settings of your Collab Playlists here.
FYI: Make sure your app is up to date. The update is now rolled out for some users and will eventually be available to all 🙂
We're here for you if any questions arise.
Cheers!
Hi Yordan,
I fall into the collaborators bucket. My boyfriend and I use the playlist to share new music to each other. Prior to the update, we could delete the other person's song after we listened to it. Is there any opportunity to set a rule for a setting to be toggled to control so that Person A can delete Person B songs and Person B can delete Person A songs. The playlist we have is the highlight of our Spotify experience. Now that it's gone it's like tedious for us to even have. It's like that collaborative and enjoyable experience of music discovery and connection is gone.
Hey @julxe,
Thanks for the question.
Whoever created the playlist initially can now add the other one as a collaborator. This way you can both add/remove songs 🙂
You can find out all the steps necessary here.
Don't hesitate to give us a shout if you need help with anything.
This is very annoying. I have had a collaborative playlist with a friend for over a decade & this new feature (block?) has really thrown a spanner in the works. Can't it be set that anyone I have invited to collaborate can add and delete freely?
Hey @Sugarbug!
All collaborators should be able to freely edit the playlist's contents, i.e. add or remove tracks . This means that you, as a collaborator, can remove a track that another user had previously added. If, however, this isn't possible, please share a short screen recording which shows how things look on your end. That way we can get a clear understanding of what's happening when you try to remove a track from the collaborative playlist.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Cheers!
It would be great to have the option to allow individuals to have permission to delete. I run a "music share" playlist that once we both listen we delete.
